Britcar
What's happening to the Britcar championship they appear to be really struggling with numbers? I guess it's a money thing again it is a real pity I love doing their meetings, but at the moment I'm afraid with the grids they are getting it hardly seams worth it...

I think it is a general lack of money, combined with a resurgence in the popularity of British GT and GT Cup.

I guess one championships gain is another ones loss, it's a pity as JT puts on a good package.

Sorry to say, but outside of silverstone it's always been complete rubbish!
3 times I've volunteered for events that have promised over 40 cars and only 10 or so have turned up....put the championship down and let the remaining teams join gt cup or british gt |

The trouble is that many of the teams don't actually have cars that are eligible for British GT. If you want to do relatively high end endurance racing but don't have homologatedd cars where else do you race in the UK? Maybe time to consolidate and run bother Britcar grids as a single combined 90min race on some one else's package than trying to run full meetings?

They used to run the GT's and produtions together maybe that is the way to go, as you say Andy some of the cars wouldnt fit in elsewhere.

The first **itcar meeting at Oulton Park was the worst day's "racing" I've ever had to endure. Apparently the second one was just as bad - I was one of many marshals who vowed "never again" after the first one.

Still better than Speed, which never seems to get into double figures.

I think we should have a general rule that no race can last longer than 5 minutes x the number of cars that start. If you can only muster 6 cars then a 30 minute race is your lot .
After all it's not supposed to be the marshals and spectators endurance they're testing is it ? OTOH I'm not a big fan of endurance racing anyway, it's not just Britcar. Steve |

The old argument, we have too much Motorsport. Too many championships for to few competitors, the MSA needs to look at this..

I was under the impression the 1000k was split over two races one Saturday and one Sunday, is it one 1000k race on the Sunday??

Britcar
The real reason of lack entries are the stupidly high entry fees. Most drivers baulk at the prices these days especially with low grid numbers.I know as I have raced in Britcar in the past. Mike

Starts 10.30 and goes for 1000k or 5hrs56mins which ever is first. So by the look of it there is no night running and only testing on friday. |

Looking the Britcar website there is a 1000k race on Saturday for the production cars going in to the night, and a 1000k on Sunday for the MSA British endurance championship.

True; however, the latest news story implies that there would be a single race, which makes sense given the relatively few number of cars. I am slightly curious as to how this can take place as at one stage I think the MSA were not keen on championships of different grades (which applies to the Prods and BEC) and was the reason for the initial separation of the two championships a couple of years ago.

Given that Friday is now a test day, I'd assume that there would be free practice/qualifying sessions for the Britcar. I suspect that the lions of the supporting Porsche Club triple header will take place on the Saturday.

We have done every 24Hr race (including the one that wasn't) and enjoyed every one of them. It might have been down to the jobs we have done (Bill one of the chief flags, me as PieLady) but you can't knock the effort that Mr Tucker put into it all.
This might be the first one we miss but that will purely be down to ill health and nothing else. The marshals have always been most appreciated at this event. |

As far as I know (remember i'm a driver so get told last), the production and endurance are racing together Sunday, but with a month to go that could change again !! Makes it difficult for sorting time off work, hotels etc.
Thanks to all marshals at Snett on Saturday, cannot have been that interesting having 1 race, but at least i managed to spin in testing to keep you awake MP |
