Bahrain F1 project complete ahead of time
hi, finally the circuit is done and in a record time, so all of the ppl who were worried or said it wont be complete on time, ur wrong. enjoy
fairly recent pic Bahrain makes history in project construction today, when work on the BD56.4 million Racing Circuit for Formula One is completed two days ahead of schedule. Contractors Cebarco-WCT, a Bahrain-Malaysian joint venture, will hand over the project to the Works and Housing Ministry at 3pm today. The ministry, in turn, will hand it over to the Bahrain International Racing Circuit Company (BIRCC). Work on the project, started on November 8, 2002, was scheduled for completion on March 7, 2004. The project is being handed over two days ahead of schedule because of the concerted efforts of all parties concerned, said Works and Housing Ministry assistant under-secretary for administration and finance Mohammed Khalil Al Sayed. 'This reflects the success of the effort put in by the Works and Housing Ministry, BIRCC, consultants Tilke of Germany, Cebarco-WCT, and many Bahraini sub contractors,' he said. 'The project is now ready to be inspected by the Formula One authorities, who have been closely monitoring the progress of the work.' A grand opening ceremony is scheduled later this month, under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad, prior to the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix on April 2-4. The project constituted a major challenge to the Works and Housing Ministry due to the very tight programme schedule, said Al Sayed. 'Sixteen months of construction period is normally tight for a project of this magnitude and complexity. It consisted of building, civil, electro-mechanical and road works as well as putting in place electronic systems.' Besides the Grand Stand and other stands, which can take up to 60,000 spectators, the project features a landmark VIP Tower, team building, a medical centre, a multi-purpose building, and PIT building for teams to stay during the event. Another major attraction, said Mr Al Sayed, is a state-of-the-art Media Centre, which will be connected via satellite to about 90 TV stations around the world. |
