Australia Race Discussion..
Just thought I'd start a topic to discuss the race...
Looks like it's raining pretty hard in the pits now.. Interesting race so far though...Bourdais crashes out after some interesting moves at the start... thoughts guys? |

That was a great piece of driving by Tagliani.
My concerns are more general - whehter it makes sense to race during what is a stormy season in Queensland. They can't afford to have this happen again next year. |

According to the commentators on Eurosport this rain will only be brief.

That hail looks nasty... you couldn't even drive around in that...heck I wouldn't want to be walking in that...
Is this a bad time of year to have the race? Then it should definately be moved. Maybe it was better at the start of the season? |

I'm sure the Queensland participants can provide a better idea of whether this an ideal time of year to race at Surfers. Here in Sydney it tends to be changeable but mostly dry.

The storm that passed over my way didn't last too long but we didn't get any hail in ours, hopefully the race isn't held up for too long. On the point of running the race at this time of the year i must say i can't see why they run it in our storm season.

Keeping an eye on the weather
CART live timing has put up this link showing the radar for the locality:

Vasser states that the race should commence earlier. I have to agree. Storms during this time of year will generally roll in in the afternoon. maybe they should at least transpose the V8 race with the Champcar. The tin-tops tend to be suited to wet conditions...

In the years we had the race in March i think the race only had one major problem with rain (93?) but in October we get storms regularly & they seem to be having problems with them at the event every year so maybe they could look at a change in the calendar but if they want to keep an October date i agree with Vasser's sentiments about an earlier start maybe start the race at 11.30 with the V8's to follow.

Got to say it and I hope the topic is broad enough to allow but in all the interviews I seen with him, I've come to the conclusion that I really like Manning. Alright back to topic

Seems to be drying...a little damp will make it interesting without it necessarily being dangerous.
Rewatching that shunt by Bourdais. While I've been impressed with his skill and general maturity but that appeared to be deliberate. Very poor form indeed... Last edited by 3state; 26 Oct 2003 at 05:26. |

manning is alright- i hope to se his car prepped better, or better altogether next year.
absolutely does this rain/hail stink, why not run the race in a dry season? surely the promoters know when is best. lets hope it doesn't run too long. |

I think Bourdais should be facing some sort of penalty for that example of poor driving, if it wasn't deliberate than it was extremely careless & must be punished although i must say that that was a good example of driving from the guys behind him.

Manning is a very cool guy! And he would be even if he stunk, which he most certainly doesn't...
Looks like it's stopped and they're cleaning it up... |

I'm surprised no one has talked about the PT incident yet. I don't know what he was thinking. From the perspective of a fellow head case it's really frustrating to watch. I know it was sort of a racing incident, but it's not always just bad luck! Only consolation is that he'll probably finish 6th or something today. Hopefully the break with give Tony a chance to calm him down so he can finish the race calmly.

Some good news with the sun making an appearance to the West so hopefully it shouldn't be long before we're underway.

Snrub, are you referring to the Bourdais/PT incident? I certainly think it looked suspiciously like a shunt by Bourdais. I'm very surprised he didn't receive a penalty, and i say this as a guy who likes Bourdais.

With the way the weathers looking we should be able to go through the rest of the afternoon uninterupted.

The Bourdais/PT - thing was PT's fault.
As much as it hurts me to say that. But then again, shouldn't Bourdais have been leading the race? Am I surprised that Junqueira was leading L1? |

Salo's just had a spin in the hairpin which has meant they have some more time under caution.
