intersting...
I'm on vacation but that's rather interesting. Unless I'm mistaken they've added an additional set of dive planes to balance the car (again, unless I'm mistaken, the factory 2002 cars ran only one set of dive planes at Sebring vs. the 2001 Champion's 2 set). Not sure how they are implementing the taller endplate except to perhaps bring the plate up to, but not connecting, the actual 15 cm x 40 cm endplate. The rules strictly govern wing end plate size to 15 cm (tall) x 40 cm (long). The new Courage C60 Evo. runs a narrower wing (165 cm wide vs. 200 cm maximum) so that the wing supports act as endplates (wing supports are regulated to 40 cm long, but obviously there is no stipulation to their height, hence the C60 has 40 cm long wing supports that are as deep [tall] as they want/need them to be).

Mike, Off-topic reply but I read that Walker is making a play for Reynard NA. Would he be your new boss or has the receiver over in Europe already brought the wind-tunnel in Indy back into the fold so they can get their grubby little hands all over it to sell? Here's one vote for "I hope not". |

i thought the same when i saw it. however looking very very closely at the pictures on www.lemans.org as far as i can see there is the smallest of gaps between the fins and endplates. literally a paper thin gap, very hard to distinguish on low res pictures, but it has to be there, doesnt it?
anyone any idea what their purpose is specifically, first guessing im thinking that they are their to smooth out air or keep airflow steady for the underpart of the wing or something. probably wrong, anyone care to enliten me? |

simple answer is that a large endplate reduces wingtip votices, which are a bi-product of lift and create drag. the endplate prevents vortices by preventing the low pressure region mixing the high pressure region above the wing. larger endplate=less mixing=lessdrag.

P1_Senna,
Actually I was laid off from Reynard ARC in December and immediately took a job with C&B Consultants: http://www.candbconsultants.com |
