Top 5 tracks on the Calender
lots of good rounds in the Country, but theyre can only be one winner, which is no guess really but I got thinking of doing a top 5 and here it is, wats yours?
1 Bathurst - Legendary, Brock, dipper 2 Clipsal 500 - 1st race, F1 history, turn 11 = best corner. 3 Gold Coast 600 - difficult track, Internationals, those chicanes. 4 Sandown 500 - 1st Endurance, co-drivers 5 Townsville 400 - Small track good racing, lots overtaking |

Bathurst speaks for it self. And Townsville is a great small track too with a few fast kinks to upset the car. I know many wont agree but Homebush i think is good. Specially when it rains and the weather is involved. Very slippery. |

Tracks vs rounds are totally different things. For me Phillip Island is the best track as a pure racing circuit but is a mile behind many of the other rounds for various reasons.

Topic is tracks though so PI should be in the top 5. |

...opinion from across the ditch; based purely on TV viewing as I have only been to one Aussie circuit in 1998 in Tassie for the V8's.
1. Adelaide 2. Homebush 3. Bathurst 4. Lakeside 5. Symmons Plains (just 'cos I been there! Love the downhill hairpin!) |

Best tracks ... but from which perspective?
As an on-track spectator, I could never vote Clipsal/GC/Townsville/Homebush as a favourite because you see so little of the actual race. I'm keen on motorsport photography, and these tracks are VERY limiting unless you have the authority to work from the other side of the fence. My choices would be different if I was responding as a TV spectator, and probably different again if I was responding as a driver. 1.) Phillip Island 2.) Bathurst 3.) Sandown 4.) Barbagallo (OK, I'm WA origin, I admit to the bias) 5.) Albert Park, so long as I can into the Chicane Skybox. |

I agree a great little track with exciting corners and bends. Three wide over the hill, 2 into the first corner continuing to duel all the way through the esses plus go off the road and the quicksand gets you. |

I miss Oran...had the best of everything. Could practically see the whole place from anywhere as a spectator, great racing, passing, ups/downs/the flip flop...final corner into pit lane always interesting...and turn 1 and 2 as a dicey passing spot. Hey...it had a bridge!!!
Never saw a bad race there, you could always follow who was where and the atmosphere on the hill on a Sunday arvo was brilliant. Nothing like watching in anticipation as someone left the pits as another car was screaming down the hill on the main straight...just a great place. |

I was judging the tracks from the current calendar, so add Oran and omit Hidden Valley from my list. |

Bathurst is a race track that people live on, rather than a bunch of streets that people decide to race on.

Its Bathurst then daylight for me.
Still amazed how steep & narrow it is when you drive the circuit, TV kills that effect to some degree. Its no wonder the Euro drivers call it the mini Nurburgring!! & best of all not a chicane in sight...hope it stays that way! Speaking of chicanes, my vote for worst circuit is the Monopoly Board 500 at Homebush, unless you like multiple crashes rather than racing! |
