Yes- For a true assessment of a real champion- they should. I'm not real big into the road courses, but it would be fairer to find to the real champian.

I think all the tracks should differ from each other.
I think they should race at : Daytona, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Richmond, Charlotte, Pocono, Watkins Glen, Darlington, Rockingham, and Bristol. (10 tracks, 10 races) IROC should invite ACTIVE Current and Previous champions from : Winston Cup, Busch, Trucks, CART, & IRL (This would increase the competitors from the current 12) (This would make it truly a Race of CHAMPIONS) NO Championship, No Invitation !!! |

Yes, most definitely. I even think Winston Cup should race on road more often.

They ran at Cleveland for a year or two in the mid-1980s, didn't they?

a 10 round IROC series! Are you kidding? Drivers have a full enough season as it is. The NASCAR drivers race almost 38 consequtive weekends (some in Busch races as well). Another 10 would annoy all team bosses, and most drivers, except Tony Stewart. Man that guy rocks. |

Oh Okay, I see .....
Gee, I don't know what I was thinking !!!
Let's see, maybe 20 laps on a Friday afternoon at 4 or 5 tracks ? We don't want it to be too competitive, now do we? How about the top 2 drivers from NASCAR Winston Cup, 1 from Busch & 1 from Trucks (if they have the time (or the nerve) to accept), the top 2 from CART & IRL (if they also have the time). The road course might be too demanding on some of the drivers, so I guess we better scrap that idea too. Last edited by Stan_MarlinMan; 9 Mar 2002 at 21:37. |

The IROC race at Cleveland was won by F1 pilot Martin Brundle, as per IROC rules he started on pole at the following round,
Who passed him on the first turn? but the Great Dale Earnhardt , Brundle said afterwards , 'he passed me on a piece of tarmac I didn't think exist'! |

Two weeks before Feb 18, both Earnhardts drew a lot of praise for their performance in the #3 Corvette in the Daytona 24 Hours race.
Thanks for the brundle reminder. I couldn't remember if it was him or Geoff Brabham who scored the 'outsider' win during the 1980s. Leads to one more question: was Brundle invited solely as an F1 driver, or was he in sports cars as well during that time? If there was a recent F1 man who I could see accepting an invitation, it would be Alesi. Don't think Irvine would get a call based on some of his NASCAR comments though (Dale Sr 'escorting' him around the turns makes for a good mental image though....) |

Yes, I think that there should be at least one road course on the IROC schedule. Why not run the road course at Indy the weekend of the Brickyard instead of running the oval?

I dont know about road (yawn) courses but a nice dirt track like the roots of Nascar would be very cool.

P.S. I think they ran the now plowed under road course in the infield at Michigan? I saw Corvettes race there in the middle 70s also on the old road course.

You did not read the first post.
Lets do it on DIRT,we know what it looks like on asphalt. IROC could run at Eldora home of World of Outlaws? The cars have to be equal but who sez they cant have wings and dirt tires? This would be a real return to racing at grass roots level as well as even out the field. Would all be even? |
