Austrian Grand Prix 2024
It's going to be a busy weekend, but maybe not for Race Control (it possibly will still).

I see we're back to last minute qualifying. Less than 3 minutes to go in the final run, they all come out at once. This used to happen years ago and I thought the FIA and the teams had addressed this. People pay over the top to watch F1 cars on track, and finish up being short changed. Ridiculous.

There's been plenty of it (last minute Q runs) in recent times but more prevalent for sprint qualifying, because they have less tyres available.

I see Super Max won the sprint race, which I completely missed but then I'm not a fan of them. However, I am looking forward to qualifying later on today, for Sunday's Grand Prix race, as well as the race itself. I'm interested to see how the changes to the track will effect track limits.

I don't know what's happened to Aston Martin. Stroll out in Q1 though I'm not that surprised, but Alonso out in Q2.

Hasn't Alonso expressed his frustration about the ongoing development of the car; it would appear that the other teams have made improvements whilst the Aston Martins have pretty well stood still. |

Imagine how much further ahead of everyone Max would be in the McLaren, think he would lap the field
He's throwing that car around like a toy and can tell he's still not happy with it Last edited by broadrun96; 30 Jun 2024 at 13:19. |

A bit of argy-bargy from the two Alpine drivers.

Verstappen's pitstop didn't quite go the way he would have liked and has lost time over Norris.

Every time Norris starts to get my attention and enjoy his driving the same radio whinging completely ruins it. The constant he moved nonsense meant I turned it off at lap 61, couldn't handle more. Lando, you can't be on the inside AND make the corner when you're going straight off

I watched the race but couldn't get the commentary from Sky, so I had to listen to BBC Radio 5 Live and one of the commentators said the same thing about Max. |

It was a great fight and I'm confident they both enjoyed it. Not the outcome of course... |

The clarification was that just weaving was no longer an act that would be reported; however, it also made clear that weaving under braking or in the braking zone that was considered potentially dangerous or similar would continue to be reported with a view to being penalised. Regardless of that, Verstappen was penalised for being responsible for causing a collision, not weaving per se. |

Max even kind of referenced himself by saying that when he moved he wasn't (yet) braking so those moves are allowed. |

I believe that they also reference braking zone, I suppose just in case a driver decides to use another competitor's car to help him slow down instead of using his brakes. |

You can say he moved before he was braking however that's not quite the case. You can say he didn't turn the steering wheel, but he certainly drove into the car beside him in the braking zone by coming across the track. . He moves right, and then left - which is not allowed. He then makes contact with a car in the braking zone (a car which did not change direction), and he leaves less than a cars width for the car alongside. He then runs a competitor off the road on the next straight. Additionally, when Lando took a place off the road he gave it back. When Max used the run off to keep the position, he did not. How many rules violations can you fit in just over 1 corner? Drivers in lower formulas have recieved race bans for driving like this. It's time to start holding F1 drivers to the same standard we'd hold a Formula 3 driver to. |

I thought it was a pretty comprehensive analysis of how Max was pushing past the limits......and of course the stewards agreed - although the penalty was effectively meaningless. |

Red Bull dropped the ball not telling Max that Lando had an automatic penalty coming. I also wonder if there might be some carryover as I’m not sure if McLaren took the 5 secs when he pitted. Max’s penalty was meaningless but he served it. |
