AusV8 TV coverage in NZ [formerly TV3 - Another raw deal on coverage]
Just checking the MySky recording schedule for tomorrow, and thought that I should let all the Kiwi fans know - and hopefully some of the V8 Supercars Australia team that read this too.
TV3 is showing the 2nd Clipsal race from midnight Sunday until 2:30 am instead of on C4 like in the past. The ratings at that hour will be sensational - Yeah Right! |

Yeah pretty ridiculous for people who have work in the morning.... sure you're going to stay up for that...
Thankfully since I'm away for Race 3 coverage I will actually be able to watch that one, but I bet I'm one of the few. |

The sooner the coverage ends up on Sky the better. I've always given TV3 the benefit of the doubt, not minding delayed coverage, becuase atleast it was same day coverage. But now we've got this to deal with. In this age with twitter and Facebook it's near impossible not to know the results before they happen.
V8's are on till 2.30am, NASCAR starts at 6.30am at Bristol, I know whcih one i'll be cutting my sleep hours short for... |

Have not watched the coverage on 3 since it's had it, always live on the internet and if you think sky having it is good it might for you but I can't see the point or cost of sky myself.

That sucks, in my opinion. Seem like TV3 is losing interest in motorsport. Maybe they need to hand it over to another broadcaster who will take it a bit more seriously.
Looks like this is the place to let them know, I shall be doing so. http://www.mediaworks.co.nz/Default.aspx?tabid=267 |

Mediaworks is in alot of trouble financially since the private equity buy-out. News stories in NZ have gone so far to say that if the NZ Government hadn't agreed to loan Mediaworks $43.3 million so that it could renew its own broadcasting license.
There's a number of stories on the matter: Free Market Mockery The $43 Million lifeline Sky TV success Sky TV has access to some fairly deep pockets, but the deal clincher that it offers is that it has a free-to-air channel in the form of Prime Television, which has some motorsport shows on it already and does replay some Sky motorsport footage. TV3 shouted from the rooftops about how good their deal was going to be for motorsport fans, and really the outcome feels closer to an echo in a culvert. Now that C4 is rebranded as some other goofy channel, it has seemingly become so valuable that playing V8 Supercar coverage on it is out of the question. Looking at how the championship timetable sits for this year, there could be a lot of late night "Race 2's" which won't really help to grow the sport in NZ at all. As for the non-championship round at the F1, we see zero coverage of that for a raft of other issues. Hopefully, with respect to all future broadcasting rights contracts that V8 Supercars enters into, they think of the fan base and perhaps look to take a bit of an income hit in return for showing the footage in each broadcast market at a reasonable hour. |

I am suprised that they're not taking the opportunity to use the extra digital (Freeview) stations they've got to use content they don't have room for on TV3 as a lever to get people to switch to freeview.... I would have thought, full live coveage of V8 Supercars would have been something that'd get blokes thinking a little harder about getting a freeview box. |

No different to us in regional Australia. V8SI and C7 , just like those two words from the wars , Military Intelligence, they just don't go together.

TV3 have already told us that Money and Ratings is why we got Supersunday, Now they have said they "did research" and found it would be better to run race 2 at midnight.
There research was, C4 now Four will not run V8's and they will not move the news. Check out their Facebook page, about 40 complaints from Yesterday and not one reply from TV3 today. A few of us have been asking questions for months and either not getting answers or getting generic answers, or been blocked. Also while your there search for "Bad Coverage by TV3" |

If you really want to watch the V8s live , it is possible to have channel 7 installed in NZ ( I have it and watch the races live ) Mark.

I'd also like to know how you went about doing that. I looked at it about 5 years ago but it was going to cost a fortune, so I didn't do it. Maybe it's a bit easier and cheaper these days?

TV3's timing was impeccable! R1 coverage finished just before Race 2 started on Bigpond.
While Bigpond is far from HD, I watch it quite happily on the 42inch in thelounge without to much squinting. |

i see tv3 are still exceling themselves at giving motorsport fans a raw deal on V8SC coverage. race start at 12.10am, after an hour of repeats.
if they spent less time w%$%^ing on about NZST, we might get to watch it on the same day as the race?? |

Stop *****ing and just watch it live on the big web like most do. St pay for everything they do....... Don't like it tell supercars to pay to broadcast.
