ACO & FIA 2004 Regulations. Help!
Can someone please answer these questions:
1. Will ACO and FIA Sports regulations be the same for 2004? If so why the 2004 FIA regulation speaks about "SR1" and "SR2" cars, while ACO regulation mentions LMP1 and LMP2 categories? 2. What was the situation this year? 3. What will become in 2004 of older LMP900 and LMP675 chassis? Will they be allowed to race until 2005? And with which modification? 4. Will GT Cars follow the ACO regulations in the LM 2004 series? And which are the differences between a FIA-GT car and an ACO one? When will the two regulations be merged? 5. What you really think about the 2004 LM series? Thanks a lot!!! |

I can't really answer those questions, but i just wanted to say welcome to the forum
Though i do think the 2004 series is gonna be good |

1. Just a difference in name really, though there are differences in engine philosophy SR2 vs. LMP2. Don't have the reference in front of me right now, perhaps someone else can answer.
2.This year FIA had, SR1 and SR2...ACO/ALMS LMP900 and LMP675 3.Current LMP900 and LMP675 cars will continue to run till '05 but they will have to run this year's smaller restrictor while cars designed to the new rules will run the large '02 restrictor. Since the -675 category is going away (ans so is -900 essentially), those cars will be allowed to run in LMP1. |

There are only small differences between SR1 and LMP1 and SR2 and LMP2 mainly in engines. In the SR2 you can only have a max 3ltr 6 cyl normally aspirated volume production engine, a 4.2ltr homologated NGT engine, or a 2.7ltr 'charged' homologated N-GT engine, whereas LMP2 you can have up to 3.4ltr 8 cyl normally asp, 2ltr 6cyl charged volume production engine or a 4ltr homologated N-GT normally asp engine. LMP1 and SR1 both have 6ltr normally asp or 4ltr charged engine.
Both LMP1 and SR1 are for 900kg cars with similar aero rules and the same for SR2 and LMP2 with 750kg cars. |

Common rules for GTs are to come in '05.
They are fairly close now but should be exactly the same in '05 according to Ratel who should know as he is head of the FIA GT and also the LMES. The LMES is a great move for the ACO. Much better than to let Panoz and Atherton try to do it again. |

Thank you to you all! But - I meant that the names SR1 and SR2 are still quoted in the 2004 FIA regulation, while it has been said that next year ACO and FIA regulations will merge.
MulsanneMike, do you mean that current LMP675 cars will be included in LMP1 category as well? |

The rules are the same (essentially), just the FIA has continued with the SR moniker. Yes, LMP675 will run within the LMP1 category at its 675 kilo weight but with '03 restrictors. |
