Problem with GPL
I'm having a little problem with GPL.
When i want to race with 5 to 19 Computer opponents the game crashes just after/somewhat after the start of the race, the screen freezes but i hear the race continue as normal and occasionally hear myself crashing and stuff... This probably is caused by my videocard, but i downloaded the latest drivers and it still doesn't make any difference... Last edited by ASCII Man; 11 Nov 2002 at 22:24. |

Without knowing anything about your pc's spec or your graphics card, it's difficult to suggest anything in particular. If the game runs with CTDs or the like during training, or with up to 4 opponents, I would suggest you try turning down some of the graphics options and see if that enables you to race with 5+. If it does, it probably points to your card, I guess.
Others with more expertise in these things might suggest something different though. By the way, are you running D3D or OpenGL? If you're not using OpenGL yet, I suggest you download the revised dll from the prominent thread on RSC and give that a go - it might improve things for you. Just hang in there Woody, suddenly it'll start to come right. I don't know about others, but I concentrated almost exclusively on Monza when I started, as it is probably the easiest track to master (once you have stopped slamming into the barrier at the Curva Grande and sliding off at the Parabolica. I still amaze myself at how late I can brake at the Parabolica these days - and I'm still 3 seconds plus off "alien" pace!). As for you, ®îjñtjûh, I had to do a fresh install a couple of times when I first started. The desire to update tracks and cars often causes problems until you're 100% sure what you're doing. Just make sure you make no more than one change at a time and that you back up regularly. Last edited by Aysedasi; 20 Nov 2002 at 16:51. |

I'll keep at it when i can I dont have a lot of spare time though. I picked Silverstone because I know it well from TOCA2 but I barely recognise it in GPL, maybe its because of a different track layout and maybe Silverstone was different in the era that GPL is set in.

There's also an intense amount of camber at 67 Silvy. You can literally throw your car into some corners and it will stick. One peace of advice that I found invaluable at Silverstone in GPL... do *not* follow the groove. It isn't the proper racing line. If you try and work out the proper racing line and brake lighter into most of the turns you'll find a second at least. My PB at Silverstone was set while I was in a race actually so I was surprised to see the time appear but it was simply because I had delved into that semi-concsious 'zone' where everything gets enhanced and the world around you starts to blur...
Of course, it could've been too much caffeine. |

Yes, good advice - also applies particularly at Mexico. Has anoyone tried "The Racing Line" yet? |

Once you've done that, just do a back-up copy of your cars and tracks folders. If you ever need to re-install again, all you'll have to do is copy and paste those folders to be back to all the eye-candy.
