Nikon D2X
Anyone had a play with the new Nikon D2X. Looking at ebay in the States you can pick up D2H's for about £800, wondering about going for one of these of just saving the cash for a D2X????

d2h's in this country seem to be hovering around the 1500 quid upwards mark...i'm guessing 800 quid is due to them being cheaper in the first place...and users selling them to raise cash to buy the d2x. i'm still on the d1h and x generation...but the d2x looks awesome from reports, i'm hoping nikon have some loaners at le mans.
nikon pro magazine has a piece on a dutch snapper who's ditching the idea of buying a 400mm lens, and going instead for a 300mm with d2x...with the 1x5 magnifying factor, the high speed 2x crop, plus converters...you can run all the way from 450mm/2.8...to a 1200/5.6....thus eliminating any need to actually attend events as you can shoot everything from your living room window! |

wow would that be cool or what about the D2X loaners at LM! I'm itching to try one out too, as I've heard good things too.

If NPS have any D2x's you need to try to book them asap or they will be snapped up by the regulars! Nello Zoppe is the NPS guy who usually attends Le Mans I will try and find an email for him and PM it to you

D2H mk1 prices went down to about 2k US a while back because of the (not known then) upcoming D2Hs, which I think is around 4k Can. Earlier this week I briefly played with a D2X that a photographer in the same building just got. To be honest, without shooting with it, my opinion of it has come more from reading than holding it for a short time. I was a bit surprised that the viewfinder wasn't that much bigger than the D1x, always for me the drag with the D bodies (especially coming from my D100, which is smaller and darker than the X, but slightly bigger than the D70)
That said, it seems to be a good compromise between the 8 and 16 Canon bodies, but with the inevitable no choice need for more cards, faster computer etc etc. ps, cute living room comment....... Last edited by djb; 2 Apr 2005 at 06:23. |

Well.. A few thoughts..
I just sold a D2H for £1.4k.. A fair price, I'd say.. I think an eBay average at the moment would be £1.2k to £1.4k.. The D2Hs rocks.. I just got mine and the AF and buffer improvements are very noticeable and welcome.. (buffer especiailly).. My D2X hasn't turned up yet, so can't comment.. D2X and 300mm is £7.5k.. D2Hs and 500mm f4 is £7.5k.. I have a 300 and a 500.. So I guess I'm sorted either way..!! |
