Matthopps should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Daytona 500 qualifying procedure

Is it just me, or is the Daytona 500 qualifying unecessarily complicated? OK so the event is different from the other NASCAR races but isn't there a way to simplify it to make it easier for the fans to understand?

I agree, way too complicated,IMO!First off, this year NASCAR qualified 51 teams so that the 1st & 2nd fastest drivers could lock in there qualifing positions for the Daytona 500,fine,but then these same 2 drivers still contend in the Twin 125 qualifying races even tho Their front row positions are already locked up,WTH! IMO They shouldn't even be allowed to contend in the 125's,also IMO it's rather rediculous in the first place to have 50+(depending on season)cars risking Their equipment/health so that NASCAR can qualify the front row(2 positions)for the 500 race with the other cars getting nothing very positive out of it!IMO,I'd like to see NASCAR qualify at least the Top 10 positions in the 1st qualifying session & those 10 cars not be allowed to contend in the Twin 125's,still would leave 20+ cars in each 125 race & less time on the track for the already qualified teams, thereby lessening the risk of engine failure/accident & etc.,JMO!

Ahhh--- Come on guys! If I can GET IT, You all should!

Yes it IS un-neccessarily complicated & that's the fun of it all. Makes it the great race that it is! What fun would it be if it were like any other race of the year. This way they have to take 2 FULL WEEKS to determine the qualifying order & they can get more TV time, fans who will spend money, & generally just make more $$ for NASCAR. It's a slow buildup of excitement. I think it's great!

I personally LIKE the complication of it all. When I finally have to RE-LEARN it every year- I feel so proud of myself!!! LOL
