Best meeting of the Year?

A writer in this weeks Autosport claims that the Castle Combe Powertour meeting was the best of the year- better than BGP, Goodwood, Rockingham, FF Festival- I happen to agree it was amagic weekend. What do other fans think?

Nothing could beat the Goodwood Revival Meeting. Absolutely nothing. Even with the world situation at the start of September, those who went to the old circuit came away buzzing with some of the best escapist racing you could hope to see.

Le Mans ran it a close second for me, despite the rain, despite the number 7 Bentley going *phut* far too early.

Perhaps the most pleasant afternoon at a racetrack this year for me was the CSCC meeting at Oulton Park. Just a leisurely, unworried bask in the autumn sun watching everything from Camaros to Moggie Minors perform for us. Definitely a 10-tenths special day.

THR has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Shelsley 100th anniversary was good. A complete one off.

UNSILENCED v12 ferrari's, 6 wheeled Tyrrell, and lots of really interesting unusal rare cars.
Jag's... MG's... Super special hillclimb cars.

and of course the MG le mans car.

and the current hillclimb cars.

Standing behind an unsilenced v12 about 2 foot away was really quite nice. sounds... smells... revs. mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Decisions...

I'm going to say the British GP at Silverstone for the atmosphere and the company, and Brands Hatch BTCC last month - it may have been cold and wet but it was brilliant.

Well, it's a hard choice to make, but for me the Goodwood Festival of Speed was the best meeting of the year. The atmosphere is just so different from any other race meeting. You can talk to your idols without having to queue for hours and hours and the sound and smell of just about every conceivable type of car being driven as they should be with only straw bales between it and you! Do I need to say any more?

Stephen.

I went to the majority of the Powertour events this season and have to agree that Castle Combe was one of the best, the weather was amazing and the racing was even better. The nightrace was also memorable I had never been to Silverstone in the dark and watching the mini's, fiesta's and GT's in the dark was something else.
You can't beat the atmosphere of a grand prix and this years was no different I had a great time. All in all I enjoyed all the meetings I went to and I can't wait for next season.

I can't comment on Castle Combe for the Powertour because I got to far less Powertours than I originally intended this year.
Deciding on a best meeting of the year would be practically impossible. John started a topic in the Touring Car Forum about best moment of the season and I think that topic summed it up for many of the regulars here, so many of the special moments listed were nothing to do with the actual racing, but things that had gone on around the weekend and as much as anything, it's the people who make the race meetings special.
A lot of my choices for best meetings this year have to involve the BTCC and I'll add in the VSCC meeting at Donington and CSCC at Oulton for good measure and good company The truck racing at the weekend was also good, but again, half of what made it was the people who were there

Stephen this year I had a seat in Luffield B, last year I was in Woodcote. As for next year I treated my self to a 3 day ticket sitting in the BRDC grandstand but due to the dates changing it now clahes with my brother's wedding so I am waiting to hear from Silverstone to see if they will change my ticket. Fingers crossed

Probably BTCC Oulton cause it was my first taste of any race meeting and the atmosphere the whole weekend......

......and then BTCC Snetterton cause i caught, both practice, qualifying, racing (night race), the gang from on here and all the usual goings on we all get up to when we're all together!!!

The bumper, the signs, the tyre (or was that someone else) - Minardi you'll know what i mean :-)

Goodwood revival yet again for me, Friday and Sunday, two magical days slightly marred by the events on the 11th.

Again like Tim, Le Mans was again great, the sight of Brundell leading in the Bentley abeit all to short and with a Panoz 2nd AND the MG's storming around.

Of the 10/10 days, the Thruxton night track tour and tin can BBQ are probably best forgot for those who can remember them

Cadwell Park April 8th - the first time I had been to Cadwell. Either that or Brands on Jul 25th, as they were the only two out of the 14 meetings that I went too that were too hot, cold, wet, windy, dark, sunny, etc.....
