If there was such a site, it would have to be huge. There was a video clip of "the big one", which was all of 2 minutes and 15 seconds long, and it was 14.2 megs. And the person who hosted the file couldn't keep it there for long.
Not to mention, it is clearly a no no in the eyes of NASCAR to do that without their permission, and you know what that means. The person making the video clips would be in violation of their copyright and broadcast agreements, etc., and I guarantee you that if NASCAR decided to take someone to court over it, they would lose. So sadly, I doubt you'll find one. |

Nope. It was just a 2 minute video clip that was posted on a free Tripod website. At least until Tripod spotted it, and promtly deleted it. The obvious problem with doing something like making an .AVI video of a whole NASCAR race, other than NASCAR's permission, which you can't get anyway because of their broacasting contracts with NBC\TNT\Fox\FX, would be the size of the files.
If you used the same DivX format as "The Big One" was made in, which looked very good in 800x600 full screen, and you round it out to 7 mb per minute, an hour's worth would be 420 mb, and the average 500 mile race takes about 3 to 4 hours to run, at least going by what they show on TV. So that would make it anywhere from 1260 mb to 1680 mb. But then again, nobody doing this at home would keep the commercials, so they could make it in smaller clips in blocks between the commercials, which would reduce the end file size by approximately 1\3. But it would still give you a huge end file size of 840 mb to 1120 mb, which is still far too big to download for many people. I have a 1.5 mbps DSL connection, and it would take all night to download a file that size. But I downloaded a couple of movies, which were in two 600 mb files, so I guess that means I would do it if I wanted to see it bad enough. Last edited by Tim B; 8 Mar 2002 at 07:55. |
