Try and keep up Woody
He's a test driver for BAR with a *cough* guaranteed race seat in 2004. |

Sato is testing/third driver for BAR. It is suspected, and suggested by him that he will be driving for BAR next year. The question is, can he fill the shoes of whoever leaves?

My lips are Buttoned, but I wouldn't be surprised if the lead driver heads off to a New Town.

Takuma and Felipe Massa were so much fun to watch in 2002!
I really hope they're both back in 2004. |

I read that Taku clinched DHL-sponsering last week, so perhaps Jordan wouldn't have lost DHL if they had only retained Sato. Surely Sato would have been a far better proposition than Firman...

At this point in the season I believe Jordan would have been better off with Sato too. Sato has been racking up the sponsorships in Japan though. He is definately an asset to Honda and Japanese racing.

I was unimpressed by Sato. I hope BAR find somebody better than him.

Sato's career had been underwritten partly by Honda pre F1 and enjoy Japanese feed back, BAR is a team of two cultures.
Sato will race for BAR/Honda in 2004 Guaranteed and beyond. JV will move on but not to Pollocks CART team. |

There are some rumours that Jacques could join Renault, probably replacing Trulli as Alonso is Flavio's favourite pet.

I admire Honda for the huge effort over the years in promoting Japanese drivers. After all they are a Japanese company. Sato had his moments last year. I am sure that this year at BAR will enable him to hone his skills. If he does not become more consistent then BAR should keep him on the sidelines. Its not worth it to put nationality over race results.

If Sato can develop as a driver this year while testing and not continue to throw it off the track like he did so often last year then I say 'good luck' to him if he's given another chance. Not many are given a second chance...

I think we have to ask how much did Honda help Carlin in British F3 the year Sato won. CArlin ran Honda engines ( like most of the teams) and were the fastest everywhere! CONSPIRACY! Sato did not look so good last year did he in all honesty.

Reading about the Carlin experience, it seems the Honda engines were still supplied by Neil Brown, presumably with all the sexy bits Honda's dosh could but. When offered a Honda Japan works engine for Macau, Sato politely refused....
I think a former F1 runner from 2002, currently running elsewhere is a special for a return in the 2nd Jordan seat in 2004 |

De la Rosa? (Used to be Jordan test driver.) Mika Salo? (Disillusioned and just too old, methinks.) Irv the Swerve? (A former Jordan pilot, but I'd be astonished. The EJ14 won't have room for all his money.) Felipe Massa? (Perhaps. It was rumoured for 2003. But the Scuderia may want to keep him as insurance for the day that Rubens is let go or Schuey packs it in.) Enrique Bernoldi? (Stop it, enough already.) Anthony Davidson? (I'd be delighted, but...) Anyway, spit it out, old thing. |
