Tailem Bend Circuit?
I have seen speculation about a new circuit at Tailem Bend in SA.
I understand it was Mitsubishi's testing ground. Does anyone have anything definite on this? What facilities are there now? How far is it from Adelaide? |

Clearly wasn't hard on gearboxes - as many an owner of early Magnas could attest to.

The shahin family ( that own the bp on the run service stations)have purchased and have massive plans for the site. They also happen to be fanatical Motorsport enthusiasts having lots of exotic cars including a McLaren that gets used for targa type events. |

I saw more detailed plans in the past, can't remember where I saw them now, but it looks like it has some potential.

As an aside but related, can any of the locals tell me what has happened to Adelaide International Raceway?
Is it still in existence? Does it operate? |

Doesn't appear to be much happening at AIR circuit racing wise by that link.
Tailem Bend looks like it might be pretty good. |

They tried to resurface the road course at AIR several years ago and hit water table problems followed by the Jane family going to war with each other which stopped anything happening at AIR & Calder.

The topography looks to be......modest. Not quite as flat as a tack, but unlikely to inspire imaginative cinematography. Still, I suppose you can only work with what you have.
I'm sure the concept is something like http://www.millermotorsportspark.com/ but i fear the reality may end up being something like....mallala. Does beg the question though, does the organising body have any interest in ensuring the suitability of facilities by investing its own money? |

Anything happening at Tailem Bend - it's been very quiet since the public funding announcement ?.

Even with the new press of the V8s coming, it's still a pain in the butt trying to sort out some of the basic track information. Layouts posted various places don't match up, and the video simulations just released indicate more link roads and configurations than even the track's website shows.
Here are a few tidbits. Simulated onboard with basic article: https://www.foxsports.com.au/motorsp...e9bd6983d317b7 Simulation from TV views: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIOC9lnDnxg I wish the article had an integrated outline for the full slate of layouts, showing where that particular configuration fits in. Also, the circuit with the main pits (West Circuit, I think), looks pretty dull on its own. |

A tour around the course with Greg Rust:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW0hjwKDZ18 Still haven't sen a good diagram of the layout the Supercars are actually supposed to use, and I'm a bit dubious as to whether some of those corners will really be as quick as they're claiming. We shall see. |

Thanks for looking. Yeah, I've seen that basic outline. Thankfully, as I've checked again, the official track website has actually updated the track diagrams, so at least some of them show more of the link roads and roughly how it all fits together.
I just wish there was something less crude out there, for one, to give a better idea of the actual shape of some of the corners. The elevation changes and cambered corners are nice, but I'm not convinced about how it will translate to the actual racing. I hope this place "pops" more than, say, the track formerly known as Miller Motorsport Park, but I'm really not sure that it will. (Please put in some trees, and make sure there are landmarks, other than the pit building.) |
