7. Lots of intrigue and some nice passing. Lost a bit for me on account of all the penalties. All deserving of course but it still takes something away when you have so many infractions.

I thought that was an absorbing race, with drivers racing throughout the field. Fortunately Sainz's Ferrari turning itself into a bonfire, only resulted in a VSC rather than an FCY. Agree about all the penalties. 8.

There would be a lot less penalties if:

A: The was a strip of gravel, grass, astroturf on the outside of the kerb. Then a driver will automatically keep more margin and you don't need to hand out penalties because the track already punishes the driver itself. Design some sort of lid to cover it for bike racing.

B: Make sure the penalty is high enough for running people off into the gravel so it doesn't pay off like it does now. If there was a start-stop penalty for running a guy into the gravel trap a driver on the inside would think twice before taking the risk.

I was going to give it a 6 because it didn't grab my attention much. But then on reflection I realised that a race where Leclerc passes Verstappen three times deserves more, so I gave it 7. I think I was just rather tired when watching it.

A. Seeing drivers habitually driving over all the coloured bits painted around the edge of tracks is ugly. I don't blame the drivers: for them it is just a part of the track and they drive the whole track. There simply is no need for all that stuff. Bring gravel to the edge of the real track and the drivers will drive accordingly. Have a bit of grass in between if desired.

B. Due to the weak penalties, drivers have become used to the idea that you can just run someone off the track. If we adopted something like A, it would also require a severe penalty for not giving another driver room. Drive-through or stop-start seems a reasonable idea. There would be complaints at first, but then drivers would settle down and it would be just as competitive as before.

Yes, agreed on both accounts. It does not seem outside the realm of possibilities to alternatively bolt in strips of either astroturf for car racing and more grippy solid plates for the bike races?

Agreed, again.

We must find something to argue about soon. This is an Internet forum, after all.

Gave it a 7 - pretty absorbing race with some sensational action in the midfield. Enjoyed it.

5. As a race, it wasn't bad, but the circuit and the track limits nonsense took away a lot of the pleasure of it for me.

There should be draconian penalties for exceeding track limits early on in the race weekend and substantial penalties for doing it in the race. It's the only way they'll learn. But we've seen this all before at this venue - it just repeats every time they go there. And turn 4 is just becoming a nonsense where the driver on the inside has no real choice but to give way to any driver who pushes his luck around the outside.

I think we are a bit spoiled with Silverstone indeed.

https://youtu.be/G_8mOQeSa2U?t=157 (till 3:38)

A five strong battle for position. I can't remember a race in the pre 2022 hybrid era where I ever saw anything like it.

Also brilliant overtake by Hamilton from turn 6 to 7.

Was going to give it a 7 and then remembered my judgement was still under the effects of 10/10 Silverstone.Moved it up to 8.

I've gone for an 8 based on the fact it was the first race in a while that has held my attention away from whatever else I might have been doing while watching in a while. Seemed to be a fair bit of decent/close racing that meant in general there was always something happening to watch rather than bits where you're sat for half an hour waiting for someone to have an issue or maybe a slow pit stop to add some spice

I realised last night it actually held my attention so well I'd not even gotten out of my desk chair and moved to the sofa for more comfort.

8. I thought it was a great race. The battle for the lead was interesting, even if the passes were clean rather than wheel banging insanity. The midfield battles were pretty frantic and fun. As others have said the track limits need resolving.

The sorting of the poll selection, and the poll results looks seriously weird...

I gave it an 8. It was an engaging race, and seeing Leclerc pass Verstappen multiple times and Alonso wagging his finger was good fun.

The venue have issues, as have F1 in general about stewarding. I felt track limits was taking up too much mind space. But, I think the first thing I want it consistency. Same penalty for everyone, everytime.

I do think some tracks invite going over the line, though, because they are way too narrow. That's a totally different discussion...

I thought it was a wonderful race with plenty of racing, a DRS which didn't allow for a slamdunk guaranteed pass, a few twists (poor Sainz), a little bit of controversy (complaining about track limits, Gasly VS Vettel - I wonder if Gasly's defence was worse than Russell's, the latter of whom's I thought was okay; I need to watch them again), a great overtake by Leclerc and a tense finish. I went for a 9.

I know what you mean. Maybe my over-exuberant score of 9 was assisted by being really awake. Then the race itself delivered.
