Bling + Bling = Crash
McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso will carry some serious hardware throughout the streets of Monaco this weekend.
The duo will both sport diamond-studded helmets with the word "Monaco 07" spelled out in white diamonds, courtesy of team sponsor Steinmetz. This is not the first time the Steinmetz company has gotten actively involved in the Formula One race in Monaco. In 2004, the company placed a pair of flawless diamonds worth $300,000 US in the nose cone of the Jaguar R5's driven by Mark Webber and Christian Klien. It was all part of a Hollywood promotion for the movie Ocean's 12. Unfortunately, Klien crashed during the race and the diamond became dislodged and, to the best of anyone's knowledge, was never returned.http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_s...me=auto_racing There seems to some correlation between wearing diamonds at Monaco and your car hitting the barriers. Still the street sweepers on Monday could strike it rich. |

The McLaren drivers also had diamonds on thier helmets in 2005, and Kimi had a diamond-encrusted steering wheel last year.
I hear they offered a brand new XKR to whoever found the diamond. Good deal, £80,000 car for a £300,000 diamond. |

Try to sell a 300k diamond. Unless you got good connections in the shady world, you will have a hard time doing so, so getting a Jag instead of nothing is not too bad a deal.

You'd probably get less than 80k for the stone anyway........not that I'd know anything about this sort of thing you understand!
Do you think there'd be much chance of 'Hammy' tossing his helmet into the crowd if he is victorious tomorrow? |

Doubtful, seeing as it's being auctioned.

Can you throw your helmet into the crowd in this day and age, or must you fill in Health & Safety paperwork first?
