Motor Racing Legends - Silverstone GP Meeting - 19/20 October 2024
Unlike previous years this one is running out of the National Pits.
Entry lists for MRL races here: https://www.motorracinglegends.com/entries-and-results/ Now under new management, Pierre-Antoine Lecoutour joins the organisation as CEO. The new series for GT3 Legends has a reasonable grid of 29. Grids are generally much smaller than at the Festival, understandably I suppose. HRDC will be there with Allstars, Jack Sears Trophy and the Gerry Marshal Trophy. |

Excellent grids for the three HRDC races, 35 / 35 / 42 entries respectively. Details at:

But what are the organsers or disatisfied owners going to do about it? There is definite scope for a series with a 1986 cut off point... |

That said the Festival grid was large and had everything, including a single Tony Dron Capri. HRDC is demonstrating that proper Group 1.5 machines are not only popular they attract larger grids, although it does bolster its Gerry Marshall grid with the prod saloons in the "Willhire" class. Then again Gerry M also raced in prod saloons. Perhaps it's time for MRL to drop the class? Don't forget, the HSCC has tried to jump on the Touring Cars bandwagon, twice and AFAIK they got low grids. But it's not just the HTCC. The balance of the grids are pretty average too, apart from the new GT3 grid. Not sure what the entry fees are like for this event, I last did the Pall Mall Cup in 2021 and it was £2200.00, so allowing for inflation I'd guess it's around £2600.00 this weekend. (Certainly makes the Equipe 6hrs of Donington look good value). HTCC entry will likely be 1100-1500 this weekend. There is also the problem of the amateur drivers v the "semi professional/professional" drivers. Getting beating up by people who have the time and money to constantly test and hone their skills can be pretty tedious. I touched on it here: https://mallettracing.com/2024/10/09...nts-to-attend/ |

Big issue I have with these meetings is they are always two separate days, I would prefer Saturday but I have zero interest in watching a three hour race, Sunday is not so interesting car wise.
Always the same with histrionics I find |

May be I didn't understand quite well, so sorry would it be the case. This is supposed to be a great meeting and referring to the HTCC grid I count 14 cars in total and only one Cortina in the U2TC class. I entered few times in France when Carol Spagg launched what was then new and I met a lot of enthusiasts. What happened? Where are the L'Tinas? Same question for the Pall Mall, where are the Big Healeys? I think I missed something. But what and where?

One point is the increasing numbers of Lotus Elans racing in Pre66 GT grids these days. Its taken quite a few of the bigger Cobras and E Types away with not one Cobra in the 3 Hour race.
As for U2TC, racing a Lotus Cortina at the same time as a Nissan Skyline must be a little scary. MRLs traditional grids have been in decline for a few years now with only Silverstone Festival making the grids look nice. Maybe its a slow trend as people look to newer series such as GT3 Legends that has a very impressive grid. |

Squealeys -Owners only seem to want to race against other big Squealeys. Broad stroke but thats the long and short of it. CTCRC 'tinas have mostly vanished now and I don't recall seeing many big Healeys on a regular basis outside of headline events since Denis passed. |

In view of some of the comments above, I find it rather surprising that the Classic Alfa Challenge has one of its best entries of the year at this meeting, with 20 entries in the race shared with Dunlop All-stars.
Sunday is a good day for Alfa fans like me |

Looking at the results I see the Spiers and Greensall combination entered 4 races back to back on Sunday afternoon, they won all of them.
Not sure if i've seen such domination results wise at an historic event. |

Nice set there. Is the Cobra driver trying to climb out?

I assume its your ex-Rover, Peter. How can a Golf and a Scirocco match the performance of your car if they retain the K-Jetronic injection system which was quite a restrictor I. itself.
