How good were the old Continentals? Pipo Derani's warm-up lap on Michelins this year beats his pole lap from last year.

Here in Penske's back yard, the Penske Acuras are tearing it up.

Man, this race snuck up on me. Thanks for starting the thread.
Looks to be an Acura lockout in the front row followed by Mazda. In GTD it was the BMW of Foley edging the Porsche of Robichon and the Acura of Neilson. I hope I can catch this tomorrow, last street race of the season. |

Almost a great start with Bomarito jumping Castroneves for second ... lasted about another three-tenths of a second. GTD-championship-leading Lambo involved but not out--#63 Ferraro looks like toast.

Derani into second ... i figured the Cadillac motor would be an edge in some of the passing zones here ... of course, Derani would be fast in a 1966 VW Beetle.

This race is making the yellows in Blancpain look reasonable.

Cautions breed cautions...
If this is the usual procedure then the DPis will be a lap or two away from one more stop to the end, if anyone wants to risk it. |

Well joest would like to, but the other leaders are just too strong, and on fresh tires.

I see cars running out of fuel in the future of this race.

From the Cadillac behind, it looked to me like Simpson had the corner and Tincknell should have yielded. Edit - I stand corrected, the corner camera from the front shows Simpson was only rear-to-front on Tincknell as he turned in. |

From the front the Caddy was barely to the Mazda's rear wheel. Plus Simpson moved left to hit the Mazda BEFORE the corner

Well Penske again had the perfect strategy call and pits JUST as the FCY comes out. For a freaking cheese wedge from WTR on the racing line.
