On f1-live.com in the time sheets for testing in Barcelona it is stated that McLaren is testing MP4-17???
I can't find any confirmation on this. Does anybody know anything about this? |

I'm not sure, but I was under the impression that the tyre companies sometimes test with older F1 cars? Maybe not MP4/1 but with two or three year old models?

There never was an MP4/1 (with no letter after it). MP4/1C raced with a Cosworth engine in 83. MP4/1E raced later in 83 with a Tag engine. I guess there was a MP4/1D (maybe first test car with Tag engine?). |

MP4 was the car introduced in 81 and raced in 82.
The MP4/1C was the evolution raced in 83. Obviously at that point Ron D. decided there had to be a change in the designation/nomenclature at that point hence the MP4/1C designation. The designation 1C was probably on the basis that the 82 car would have been MP4/1B had that nomenclature been in place. Last edited by Teretonga; 5 Dec 2004 at 19:54. |
