Damon, Martin & Mark to return to F1 cockpit
According to www.crash.net Damon Hill, Mark Blundell and Martin Brundle are to drive the 2 seater Minardi's at the Donington Minardi raceday next month. Alonso, Webber and Paul Stoddart also according to this site.
Paul and Damon are old mates as PS was the guy on Damon's pit board at Jordan in '99 when European Aviation sponsored them. His airline flies the ITV F1 crew around too. |

and this from F1-Live :
For Minardi's ‘Thunder in the Park' next month [02/07/02 - 02:57] Damon Hill 1996 World Champion, Damon Hill, has been coaxed out of retirement to participate in Minardi's ‘Thunder in the Park' mark 2 scheduled for the weekend prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix in August. Hill retired from Formula One at the end of the 1999 season while racing for Jordan, but will be in action for a demonstration race that will take place at Donington on the 10th and 11th of August. Here the ex- Williams champion will get behind the wheel of a Minardi two seater to raise funds for charity. At this stage it is thought that eight Minardi two seater's will be in action over the weekend with other past and president Formula One stars, some yet to be named, joining Hill on track for a 12 lap race. After the demonstration, rides will be auctioned off in aid of charity. Team regulars, Mark Webber and Paul Stoddart, will also be involved, along with Renault test driver, Fernando Alonso, ex-driver turned ITV commentator, Martin Brundle, ex-Arrows driver, Jos Verstappen and Mark Blundell. The identity of the other drivers should be announced in the near future. Formula Minardi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd like to see this. might be better than the F1 race!! |

Can't see Nigel being invited back though...
Stoddart did Hill's pitboard in '99!? You learn something new...that's a good return on your sponsor cash, eh!? |

Yep, Paul did hang out Damon's pit board.
Ok, he's very much involved in F1 now and all it's politics but deep down, is a true enthusiast - hence his ownership of over 20 old Tyrrell F1 cars and that was before he bought Tyrrell's redundant equipment when BAR took over or was involved in F1. He has made his dough from aircraft but breathes and loves racing. He raced himself in the BOSS series in one of his Tyrrell's and has done some straight line testing for some of the teams he has sponsored too such as Walkinshaw's Arrows. I know this one 'cos I had to do a painting of it! His first 2 seater car was even presented in Arrows' Orange livery and Webber's F3000 car too. It is only since he jumped into F1 team ownership that the politics has caused some friction with other individuals. He is generally very well respected and liked and I think it is great that he is prepared to organise and put on a show at Donington despite the well recorded troubles of late. What a joy it was to see his and Mark's reaction to their great finish in Melbourne! |
