Pirelli World Challenge Rounds 8 & 9: CTMP (Mosport)
Another Pirelli World Challenge race week, this time at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, better known to all of us as Mosport.
The GT Classes are heading into their eighth and ninth rounds, with last year's double race winner Johnny O'Connell leading the driver's championship ahead of Cadillac Racing teammate Michael Cooper and K-Pax Racing's McLaren factory driver Alvaro Parente. With EFFORT Racing on hiatus for the rest of the year, Patrick Long switches over to Wright Motorsports' new entry the #58 Porsche. GTS rolls into rounds 7 & 8 with few major entry list changes, and the always entertaining TC classes finally make their return to the track for their third and fourth rounds. Sprint-X makes it's debut with eight cars on the entry. Schedule Entry List Live Stream Live Timing and Scoring Track Map Weather (racecastweather.com) Series Twitter Account |

I missed that, kinda surprised Jeff Courtney's Maserati isn't on the list.

I like the look of the Pfaff Motorsports Porsche GT Cup car. (In the background.) Very nice Castrol livery.

Yup, me too on Sunday, with a friend. A couple of others will be there all weekend.
Don't know much about the Sprint-X format - is this the regular GT machinery - and if so, are they really doing two races in one day (Sprint-X in the morning, GT/GTA/whatever later in the afternoon)? |

That was the least exciting race I've ever seen occur at Mosport. Though I guess expectations based on track history are more to blame than anything.

Yep, not a super exciting race. Pat Long back on the top step of the podium so quickly is a great story, but other than that... hoping for more movement through the field, different track conditions or something for tomorrow's race.

Got a kick out of the TV ad. NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, and oh also PWC.

Mills/Whittmer and Riddle/Wilson dominate both Sprint Cup races at Mosport. ViJoen needs to be in the regular GT race. He can drive.

Once again, half a race (thus far) spent under yellow.

After the race finally restarted following the Eversley/Fong incident it ran pretty clean, especially considering the damp conditions. Not the most entertaining race to watch though, considering how completely dominant Pat Longs Porsche was this weekend. The eventual outcome never really seemed in question.
Congratulations to Porsche, Pat Long, Micheal Schein and the Wright Motorsport team on the super sweep! |

I actually really enjoyed the actual race, but all that effort for 25 minutes of green flag racing just seems utterly daft sometimes. Love the field, the calendar and the online broadcasts, but the race format is really frustrating, Greg Creamer's spin-tastic commentary really grates on me and the fact replays aren't easily available online makes it really difficult to follow along sometimes.
For example, I will be at the N24 next weekend, but I'd love to see the Lime Rock races and this field should be excellent fun on that track - heavens only know if it will be possible to watch sometime. |

Davison has been issued a penalty, moving him down to eleventh. Always Evolving has appealed the decision.

GT3 cars today CAN run 60 minutes on fuel. How about make a 50 minute race but the first 10 minutes of full course yellow not count against the race clock.

I thought that it was a great race. The occasional bursts of rain helped. I spent the race at Moss. Long had everyone covered but Cunningham holding off two McLaren's (Fogarty and one of the Lizards), Fuentes' 458 and Montecalvo's Merc was entertaining. It seemed that every lap the order behind Cunningham changed. Near the end Fogarty faded.
Other thoughts. The SprintX wasn't too bad. A few more cars would help. The Sin R1, if looks were speed it would have cleaned up. It was also a very quiet car. The GTS race was good for the small period of time it was green. I was at T2 when the incidents at T3 happened. Both incidents required lengthy tire barrier repair. Interesting mix of cars. The Evora's looked and sounded great. The KTM's looked like they should be running in the P2 class in IMSA. |
