1960/70s Sports Racing Cars
To accompany the 1970s 2-litre sports thread, how about some of the other Long distance sports cars from Groups 4, 5 & 6? This period gave us some of the most beautiful race cars ever built.
See what I mean? The start of the 1969 BOAC 1000 at Brands with Amon's Ferrari at the front. |

Another favourite - the Chevvy powered Lola T70 MkIII. Seen here at Spa in an historic GT race.

Here a very rare one , the Willment BRM, looking like a pick-up in 1968. This car was also raced by Hans Hermann some time earlier.

Who remembers this one, never raced in his home-country, only once in Spa, suffering the terrible rain during the race. (photo 1968)

Re nothing. This is just such a sexy shot. Actually, it's Bobby Rayhal in 935 of course, practice at Silverstone. Probably 1990 but I need to dig deeper to check the date. And Rayhall was super quick in those conditions.
Bravo the marshals as usual. How do you spell Rayhal? |

Rahal - earlier than 1990 I would have thought John? Early 80s?

Yes absolutely - 1980. Nice pic though. He was on it, absolutely everyone worried for him. But the 935 was dead driveable. Battleship.

From the Group 4&6 race at Oulton in April 68, Tony Dean leads Dibley, Bradley, Hawkins, Lepp and Prophet. Nice sunny day.

Brian Redman won the race in Sid Taylor's T70. I loaned the photo from my album to someone who was writing a T70 history which never materialised, and neither was the photo returned. The negs from this race have gone missing too, so no Redman, but here are Paul Hawkins in a none too pretty GT40 leading David Piper's gorgeous P4. The P4 is my all-time favourite too.

Can someone tell me why the posted images come out darker than the originals, or is it just me?
Here's Hugh Dibley in the Howmet turbine. Whenever the great American race photographer Dave Friedman (author of Can-Am and Shelby books among others) captions a pic of Dibley he refers to him as 'Hugh PK Dibley'. IIRC he was a BOAC pilot. He also flew in cars, most notably at Mosport in 66. |

Klaus,
I think the angular beast is the Marcos Repco with aerodynamics by the Adams brothers. |

Silverstone International Trophy meeting 27th April 1968. Denny Hulme and Jo Bonnier in T70s lap John Morris's 906.

and as for the first low angle shot of the 330 P4 with the lovely light reflections-anyone who says that the lines of a beautiful car have nothing to do with the curves of the female body must be blind (what can I say, one sees a photo like that and it's the first thing that comes to mind). |

The Adams family was a quite successfull thing, the Marcos repco shurly not. But if you ever have stood in front of it, than you would know, why i have posted that image: it was an unforgetable impression , such a strange beast of plywood, glasfibre and perspex. I think , this forum is an ideal place to put in some cars, rarely to be found in other publications. i have hundreds of Ferrari pictures of my own (all P´s) and Lola T 70 (beginning with Surtees first out in in Lola Aston Martin), of course all GT 40 (beginning with first GT40 1964 at the Ring), but all the magazines and books are overfilled with those, so i think , it is more interesting to mix in some pictures of much rarer impressions. hope you like it too, Klaus |
