Snetterton being extended?
I have heard a rumour suggesting Snetterton may get a track extension and some infrastructure upgrades to support the growth. Anyone heard of this?

Click on "latest news" and this is within the text.
"Also planned are some radical alterations to the layout of the Snetterton circuit itself, with Russell chicane being replaced by a double hairpin complex and Sear corner going out wider and featuring a sharper turn to bring it back in to rejoin the Revett Straight." |

Unfortunately the news items are not date-stamped. I think that article has been around for years now. Don't forget that the work was scheduled to start a few years back, but because of local complaints, did not go ahead.
As far as I'm aware, recent development plans do *not* include any alterations to Russell. Whether it has been temporarily removed, or permanently abandoned, I cannot say. |

Exciting stuff though and I think it will be great for the circuit. |

I hope it goes ahead, the MSV circuits are a credit to their owner, and with Donington, Combe and Knockhill still buoyant, we should be happy to see the UK circuits still intact for the foreseeable future. Has anyone looked at the race car sale sites? Seems the sad state of affairs with the world economy is seeing presumably very wealthy people having to liquidise some very nice toys

It all looks like common sense to me. Extending the circuit an therefore making two possible tracks that can be run concurrently should increase the income of the place.
When you think about the size of the place and compare that to what the current income is, it must be a pretty poor £ to the square foot ratio... Last edited by VIVA GT; 22 Sep 2010 at 08:56. |

That layout is at least a year and a half old. The one I have seen gets rid of Russel Chicane, makes coram a LOT longer and more round, and also gets rid of Sear by making it a hairpin.
Supposed to happen over the closed season |

Looks very good, and challenging.
Hope turn 2 will be a proper Hairpin, a la Pembrey |

No, it's a PROPER hairpain, al la Montreal.
See here for desription of the new circuit http://www.motorsportvision.co.uk/sn...sp?NewsID=6061 [*edit* typed prior to merge] From a driver's pov, it looks to provide a great mix of corners, more overtaking opportunities and Norfolk's version of the Parabolica (turn 3). It also removes that abomination of a corner - Russell How good it is to see a circuit redesigned by a driver? Last edited by johnw; 24 Sep 2010 at 09:49. |

plans look good - glad to see some of the current track kept - Riches, Esses and Bombhole - lets see now if Jonathan's plans in bringing DTM etc will happen. would be interested in hearing views from drivers on the new layout - overtaking opportunities etc.
Also see the planned business park / hotle will start the year after |

but seriously. i'm not convinced about the new layout. having 2 circuits available to run at once, yes. turning it into palmersport mk 2? hmm. will the addition of huge run off at bomb hole remove the challenge? how much more debris fencing will there be? so many questions. |

Also the business park / hotel etc is now planned to start in 2012. Lets see when the diggers actually move in. JP must be applauded in what he has done to the all the MSV circuits - great "vision" ( no pun intended ! ). With comments in Autosport from Gary Parfett re concerns about Brands run off areas for DTM -maybe Snett is the way to go with the space available |

They are asking for suggestions to name the corners - www.snettertonnames.com - although they seem to be asking about all corners not just the new ones. What's wrong with Esses, Bomb Hole, Coram, Russell, Riches and Sear?

Can't help thinking this is a lot of work to get over the issue of everyone running "four wheels off" at Sear
Sure it'll be interesting - and interesting to see what the circuit hire prices and therefore the entry fees will be. Wonder which circuit the 360 will run on? Glad to hear they are re-surfacing all the circuit - it was cracking up quite badly when we visited with CSCC earlier this year. |

Im not sure that fees will rise too much what with it being part of MSV... Yeah some parts were a bit "cracky" particularly at the Bomb Hole, nearly lost it a few times there going flat out over the bumps! Cant wait till its finished though, I really hope we race there next year, I wonder whether we can still take the new Coram flat...?! |
