[LM24] Le Mans Trap Speeds

hello there!
i'm just a le mans maniac and especially a le mans speeds maniac so i was just wondering if anyone could post the le mans 24 hours trap speeds for the 1996 edition and for the 2006 & 2007... i heard it's very hard to find these 2006-2007 data but if anyone has it...i'd be greatful to find it out from him/her. i heard the r10 hit only 326 km/h in 2006, but that's just hard to believe if we think qbout its lap times of 3:30.446... When Toyota made that 3:29.930 in 1999, they hit 352 km/h on the Mulsanne, while a Nissan R390 GT1, while hitting 326 km/h in 1998, had a best qalifying lap of over 3:40. So I just think the Audi must have gone faster than that. if any of you know about it...

The fastest speeds Ive seen according to the pdf results is 339kph for the Peugeot and that was during the race, in qualifying it was 334kph. Now im fairly sure the cars werent going quite as fast as they could have gone had the track stayed dry, id suggest anything up to 355kph would have been possible with a good slipstream.

If you go onto the ACO's site they have the full 2007 timing and scoring run down, trap speeds, sector times, everything for the two practice sessions and the race.

Current cars have more drag than the sliippery '99 cars, hence the differing top speeds, plus it seems current cars are increasingly running more downforce, which seems to have worked for Audi over the years.

Plus the development of tires, means much faster cornering speeds. SO the low lap times with out the higher straight speeds.

Yes that is true, but I really dont think the cars were reaching their ultimate top speed this year. Im pretty sure that the diesels would top the 339kph they set at Le Mans this year. I forget who it was but I remember someone saying that at Paul ricard one of the petrol LMP1 cars was hitting 326kph or 336kph, I cant remember what car it was or who said it but im pretty sure it was said. Also remember that top speeds should be higher now at Le Mans than back in 1999, yes the cars run more downforce but now the speed the cars are taking onto the mulsanne is much higher thanks to the the corner leading onto the Mulsanne having be re profiled.

I think the audi and pug were pushing as fast as they could during qualfing.

fastest car of recent years was the Dome S101 - which clocked 340kph at post 8 in 2002.

Yes they were pushing as hard as they could but if you remember the conditions changed early on and there wasnt a chance for more competitve times to be set, had the track been dry for both qualifying sessions I am sure that the times would have dipped into the 3:25's and maybe even 3:24's. And remember the cars almost always go quicker during the night qualifying sessions when the conditions are more favourable.

No, the speed coming onto the mulsanne would have been up compared to previous years and therefore the speed the cars could get up to over the same distance as previously should be higher.

New reg LMP1's didn't have a gurney flap in 2004/5, but one was fitted in 2006.

I would assume the ACO will tinker with this to increase drag and keep top speeds in check.

MC: I’ve been somewhat surprised at the pace of the Nasamax hybrid LMP1. Do you anticipate the ACO tinkering with the aero regulations should the LMP1/2s show more speed at a sooner date than anticipated?

PE: Well they have already legislated for rear wing gurneys in 2006 that are not required yet, so it would seem quite possible. I think that the Nasamax’s speed is perhaps not quite so surprising when you look at what the 10% larger restrictor does to the top end power, and then look at the significance of that at Le Mans, Monza and even Silverstone

i would think top speeds would be about 340kmph, the peugeot 908 and dome S101.5 were the fastest looking cars down the straight but it probably wont be the case.

The Dome should be down on speed this year - I saw 339kph by both Pug and Audi at points (I had trap speeds on my timing screen) so I suspect that was the top whack

Didn't the ACO stop releasing the topspeeds a year or two ago? Had something to do with them speeds going down every year...
To be honest,I think this is all implied by the " safetynazies" who,imho,have a bit too much of a connection with the FIA boys(read: F1 boys) and we all can imagine Bernie and Max not being to big a fan of higher topspeeds then their coveted F1 barges...

Last year there were trap speeds distributed to the press but I didnt see them this year though sporadically they were on timing screens - 339kph was top whack as I said

Ah, if the FIA had just left the 3.0-litre engines in F1, there wouldn't be much competition in top speed. The year that Montoya set that blistering pole lap at Monza, some of the cars were doing around 365-kph into the Variente Prima.

Anyway, back to the topic, I think the fastest cars could get up around 350-kph on the fastest points at Le Mans.
