Oh that could be amusing either the GP or merely applying. Charlotte Last edited by Piglet; 29 Oct 2011 at 08:35. |

youd be lucky mate if you could get a spare ticket!!!!!!!!! chances are youll have to get picked to get a spare ticket! i know i wouldnt ask for one, especially if you may have started, even though i dont normally mind asking for things, its like me i dont know much people, ive done a pile of dates started off end of last year there's this frustrating time as a trainee that a gp is at least a year away,
you wouldnt really stand a hope because theres no one in the family who wants a spare club ticket but when a gp ticket is offered that's another story! anyway love your eagerness! there's always next year. i might be wrong i know someone who gave a ticket to one of their family and didnt use it! Yes In previous years the guest had to stay in the same caravan / tent due to camp site space limitations, however this year due to the economic downturn you'll be required to share sleeping bags
After the huge "oversubscription" in 2009, I've not seen info on how numbers turned out for the last couple of years - any rough idea Chris? |

What, compared to the Formula 1 Grand Prix?
In Toronto, you have to deal with doughnuts/coffee in the mornings, a clean portaloo on post, coolers full of cold drinks, packed lunches brought to post at lunchtime, ability to flag based on your skill and experience. Who'd want to do that? |

Yes, I'm lucky to have done the event, and hope to do it again in years to come. I was suggesting that aspiring to marshal at F1 shouldn't necessarily be the pinnacle. A very good trip to Canada is easily cheaper than what a lot of people spend on cigarettes in a year! |

Just realised i'll only have 11 days this year, so looking for one more day as Post Chief.
Dates available are 12,19,26 Nov or even 3rd Dec. Any suggestions. |

gt1's is easy to remember the club for me, its the only brscc organised event ive done!
any event that has a whiff of being international will pretty much be... international! i dont want to send out the wrong messages but gt1's travel the world, its not like formula 3's that stray into europe once or twice a year. these are undoubtably fia it says so on the website, |

Oh, ****, here we go again. We've got to scratch about putting permit details onto an MSA form - the same MSA that has all details of all the permits on file!

No question of it. Number of meetings criteria is not FIA. Presume it's based on number of potential marshals and trying to ensure the best quality and recent experience. Other countries may be happy to accept anybody, but for the biggest (in terms of tv spectators) motorsport event of the year in Britain I'm very happy that we're choosier.
It's no coincidence that the British GP is usually a shining example of how to do it properly. |

'Doing it properly' at the GP is no different to how we work the remaining weekends of the season. The GP is probably one of the only events where we have 'everyone' on post we'd like. There's no need to 'make do' with low numbers etc, so of course it should be about perfect! In regards overseas F1 events, now that many are in places that don't have such a tradition of club racing, it's going to be harder to recruit experienced marshals. I was able to marshal at the first Singapore GP in '08 - purely off my own back. The marshalling was organised by CAMS (like BARC did at Abu Dhabi) - and they had large numbers of people there to train/mentor/lead the locals. The local marshals came to the race with very little or no experience of motorsport or marshalling. It was interesting to see the faces on post when the F1 cars came out for the first time! If the only race you get to marshal each year is F1, you're never going to get the trackside experience that F1 really needs or expects. However, if you have nowhere else to marshal you're stuck. |
