CLIP-Motorsport should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
70's F1 and BTTC

Good idea having a seperate section for the old pics. Here are some more for your pleasure taken by my sister and brother in law from 1973 and 1974 at the British Grand Prix and Race of Champions.
I've tried as much as possible to fill in some details on the pictures, I know of a couple errors but If you spot any more errors or can fill me in with further info, please let me know.

I have added some comments on Flickr; I think a lot of the photos of the saloons were taken at the Tourist Trophy meeting at Silbverstone.

Very interesting paddock shots!

Superb photos clipmotorsport.

I agree with Alan about the paddock and track photos at Silverstone, the Matthews and Brodie cars would be destroyed in the race on the Saturday as would a few of the F1 cars as well.

The Escort with the green stripes is Jonathon Buncombe's car by the way.

My meagre offering from the 73 TT.

I just loved Group 2 Saloons - 3 wheeling Cologne Capris and the Batmobile BMW's, plus the odd American big banger thrown into the mix

The Fitzpatrick Capri - Check out the 70's sideburns!

Hans Stuck's BMW

BMW "Batmobile". The wing seems to be in the way of the fuel filler.

The Walter Dona Alpha.

Carlos Facetti's Alpha.

Brian Muir had a minor bump in practice.

The Alec Poole/Tom Walkinshaw Datsun Sunny.

Bill McGovern's Bevan Imp.

Denis Leech's Mustang.

And finally, a great hero of mine, Frank Gardner and the SCA Camaro. Frank led both heats but ran into tyre problems. I think he ran out of slicks and ended up on intermediates!

Thanks for info Steve, it all makes a lot more sense being the TT race, should of trusted my first instinct thinking it was Silverstone.
I'm not 100% sure of the F1 shots that I describe as Race of Champions '74 although the cars and numbers seem to fit. Can anyone identify it as Brands Hatch?

Some great pics there, thanks! I am particularly interested in Touring Cars and have seen shots of some of the cars before (The Lindrick Capri colour scheme is fantastic!) but don't recognise the white with lime green stripes RS1600. Looks like a decent transporter behind, so a well funded team- anyone know the driver / team?

Cheers, Mike

The Lindrick Capri is the Dave Matthews car which was totally destroyed when he and Dave Brodie came across a wayward mini in the middle of Abbey.

The Escort is the Jonathan Buncombe car.

Thanks Alan, I know the name Jonathan Buncombe but couldn't match it to that Escort. Cheers!

Your photos are also great and very interesting to anyone contemplating Gp2 next year!

I read somewhere recently that Andy Rouse was involved in either a replica or resoration job of a Broadspeed car in that livery? Might have been in a 'Motor Sport' mag. From the images in the piece, the car looked fabulous. Guess it might be out in Classic Thunder or Oldtimer races this season?

Lovely images all round CLIP!!

I think the Paddock photos are the GP support race and the Circuit ones the TT.

IIRC the Race of Champions was Brands Hatch and the International Trophy was Silverstone.

The impressive sideburns at the 1973 TT at Silverstone belong to Mike Kranefuss - Team manager of the Ford works team. He was famous for them, before they were famous!

I have been looking through these wonderful photos again and I have just realised that the Bevan Imp is Les Nash's car (yet another purple people eater) and not Bill McGovern's.
