Abu Dhabi flights cancelled due to volcano/thank you thread
No, this is not a joke.
"Etihad Airways announced that five flights between Abu Dhabi and England were canceled Thursday." - http://us.cnn.com/2010/TRAVEL/04/15/...ex.html?hpt=T1 Latest news is that British airspace is closed until 6am on Friday, but if the ash persists, that could last longer (Thought I'd post this as a separate thread so people in AD have a single place to look for info we may hear) |

Latest news is airspace will remain shutdown until at least early Saturday morning.
My guess is that even if it reopens soon after, there will be disruption for a long time owing to aircraft being out of position. |

Presumably the Etihad flights would not be out of position as they would have not been able to return to the UK, though I don't know what the backlog of passengers will be like.

I don't even know what airline they are using. My earlier post was simply to illustrate that AD was affected, as you'd expect. The planes may have to go somewhere else first, or for maintenance, or anything....the message is "expect the unexpected"

I guess the problems will be if the ash cloud drifts further south and/or east, as it's not just the airports that are closed, it's the airspace.

A group of colleagues who were due to return (on Emirates) from a conference in Australia tomorrow morning are stuck in Dubai until Thursday so I think the message is that there will be significant disruption.
If the flights scheduled for Sunday aren't disrupted, there's a very good chance that people booked on those flights will fly on time. It's the people whose flights have been cancelled over the last few days who'll suffer the most. Last edited by Sticker Rub; 16 Apr 2010 at 16:36. |

NATS are currently saying 7:00 am Saturday but we know that just means thats how far their forecast goes and they will just keep pushing that time out until they know it's safe to resume. At least if your weekend flight is booked with Ryanair you now know where you stand. |

Make the most of your time abroad.............
Thank goodness we flew last week, despite the security alert! Mind you - a few extra days in Cracow would not have gone amiss!!!!!! |

I did hear on the radio yesterday that the Airport Car park operators have said they'll waive excess charges for people caught up in this.......but whether that filters down to the jobsworth in the booth - or the software in the automatic ticket machine if its like Manchester - I have my doubts.....
