Group C car Grid 001
A friend owns this car and has now decided to sell it with a view to getting a Group 6 car. He has owned the car since the late 80's and ran it as a Thundersports. He is trying to piece together the previous history as he has never formallt charted all its races. I know it raced at Le Mans twice (I think driven by David Hobbs). Other period drivers included Emilio de Villota, Alain de Cadenet, Rupert Keegan, Davina Galilcia, Nick Faure and Desiree Wilson.
Any help is gratefully received. If you are interested in potentially buying the car pm me and I will fwd your details to the owner. Thanks |

Simon, car built early 82 for the then brand new Group C series. Built by Ian Dawson's team, with Giuseppe Risi's support, hence GR ID. Raced by the team in about 5 races 1982, with a 3.3litre DFL. Not very reliable, I don't think it finshed more than once. Driven mainly by de Villota, Risi's man, and Guy Edwards. It came out once or twice in 1983, but by then the team was involved with a Porsche powered variant, the GRID S2. That was also none too reliable.
For 1984 it was sold to Gil Baird/Techspeed racing, who used it mainly in Thundersports, very occasionally in Group C2, still with the DFL. Then passed to Jim Stevenson, I'm dredging the memory here (!), and used in T'Dports again over the next few years, as a coupe. Forgive any mistakes, this is all OTTOMH. |

superb thanks. Yes you did kindly e mail the photos but it was the history that we are now trying to piece together. Thanks a lot I look fwd to getting the email in due course. Whilst on the subject of Group C cars, has anyone got the newspaper headline about a UFO going down the M4 at 4.00 am. In reality it was de Cad testing pre Le Mans!!

Dan rear - Are you sure that Guy Edwards drove the Grid? He did pair up with De Villotta the previous season in the Lola T600.
The Grid was later occasionaly driven in thundersorts races by Tony Lanfranchi - possibly i then owned by Techspeed. |

Villota drove the GrID in 1982 with David Hobbs, not Guy Edwards - Edwards was driving the Ultramar T610 that year with Keegan.

Thank you Jeremy, I have been trying to think what Guy Edwards did drive in 82 before I posted the above.

Is this the same GRID that contested the Thundersports Championship and was entered by Brian Robinson and driven by Brian and Dudley Wood. The car was red and was sponsored by some demolition company along with Olney Gallery (Art/Antiques business of Dud's).
I have some photo's of the beast at Brands supporting the GP in 1984. |

The Wood-Robinson Grid is the GA2, the Porsche powered car, that during '84 contested also some WEC races and, if I remember well, IMSA Miami round.
It was reworked during the winter 84-85, but probably never raced again.... |

Robert certainly ran it in Thundersports in period and its quite probable that someone else ran it in similar spec. I think Robert ran it until the end of Thudersports and it has sat in his garage since. We looked at getting it back up for Group C rounds but the recommissioning costs were too high! I think he would be interested in selling it to look at a group 6 car. If anyone is interested let me know and I will pass on the details to him.

Chaps, the Robinson who raced Wood's Grid S2 was Barry, NOT Brian. IIRC Barry R raced in Modsports with a Porsche prior to this. Brian is the North-eastern racer, who also, raced Porsches latterly, but well before that he had Lotus Cortinas, F5000s, F2 Chevrons, then a very quick Esprit GT car, based on his B48.
