MotoGP - Ride of the year
My choice would be Sete Gibernau at Welkom. I'm afraid I haven't seen enough of the 250 and 125cc racing.

Sete at Welkom wins it hands down. To race with the amount of emotional trauma and pressure he was under, ninety-nine percent of other people would have collapsed under it.

Sete and Rossi at Le Mans wasn't bad either, or at the Sachsenring.

I chose Sete at Welkom.
To take the pole and win the race after the tragedy of Daijiro Kato was something... He was even on a year old bike as well... |

Rossi at Philip Island. Utter domination. The rest of the riders are toys!

Sete at Welkom and Rossi at Phillip Island are two of the best.
But I choose Sete at Welkom. Of the other classes: 250 Poggi at Suzuka, West at Assen and Rolfo at Sachsenring 125 Pedrosa at Le Mans, Jenkner at Assen, Lorenzo at Rio and Ballerini at Oz. |

Well, I don't think there's any doubt that Sete at Welkom was the ride of the year. And Rossi wasn't toying with him that race - no way, not that day, it was obvious he was giving 100% the whole race.
How come Rossi at Brno didn't get any votes though? I felt that that was the greatest ride of his career. (I didn't see Phillip Island BTW). |

Yes. He closed right up onto Sete's back wheel, but Sete was too quick for him to get by He seemed to be pushing hard before that though. Remember when he kept running wide trying to get past Bayliss and Biaggi? I don't think even Rossi would make mistakes on purpose |

Rossi at Phillip Island was the only tine this year when he rode at anything like 100%. Most of the year he went as fast as he needed and no more. It was only this lack of full commitment that caused him to make a few mistakes, not by pushing too hard.

Catalunya (after he went off) You don't think he actually let Sete win the race at Welkom do you? Last edited by Yoong Montoya; 4 Nov 2003 at 20:58. |

Rossi at Philip Island has to get it - just. For sheer dominance. It shows that he was probably sandbagging for some of the other races, although Sete certainly gave him a run for his money in a few of them.

Well imagine if Rossi had got a drive through penalty at Phillip Island instead of adding time to his race time. It would have had shades of Carlos Checa at Rio last year. |
