peespeed should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Mondello March 8th

Things seem to get quieter and quieter in the week leading up to a Rallycross in Mondello. You'd never think it was the final round of the Irish Championship with possibly a few classes to be decided (haven't seen points so not 100% sure). Michael Duke and Noel O'Brien are the 2 in contention for the StockHatch title, Noel has to win and Michael finish lower than 7th for Noel to claim the top spot in the Class.

Also it's the first round of the British Championship and there's no talk of who is or might be doing the championship this year.

So any predictions for Sunday or any rumours on who will or won't be in Mondello this weekend??

It does seem to get quieter and quieter on here.. Probably wont see an entry list for this event either. Be interesting to see the points too. You say above that noel has to win with michael finishing lower than 7th! Which championship are you talking about, Class or Cup? I would have thought that Michael was odds on for the class but in the cup i thought Noel would be odds on. The reason i think this is that Duke was excluded from the results in 1 round of the cup and i think that he has to use that as one of his counted scores but i may be wrong, maybe he can use that as his dropped round. Also have the stockhatch points been sorted regarding Godfreys points?

On another point Michael Coyne looks a good bet to win the championship, when was the last time a modified won the overall championship?

I'd have thought an entry list would be available by now - although they have been somewhat "secret squirrel" about entries for the Irish championship recently.

As it's a joint round I'd expect a fairly large contingent of British drivers to head over - certainly anyone that's looking to be invovled in the title race. Also gives people another chance to give the cars a run out before the ERC round at Lydden. I'd expect to see Gibson, Proctor, Hill, both Dorans, O'Donovan at least in the supercars in addition to the normal Irish entries.

I certainly hope so, with the recession the Irish Supercars class has been.... depleted of late.

Simon Hortons website seems to point to the fact that he'll be there (care to confirm Si? ), looks like a bit of an Impreza fest! (especially if Kevin McCann is there too?)

Copied and pasted from Mondello's website...

Quote:
In a major change from its traditional October date the British Rallycross Championship will kick off its 2009 season at Mondello Park this Sunday at the circuit’s final Rallycross event of the 08/09 winter season. While the British drivers will be opening their 2009 campaign the Irish championship will come to an exciting climax with a number of titles still up for grabs.

A healthy twelve car Supercar entry has been received so far by the Co. Kildare Motor Club with the possibility that this could be swelled by additional runners before Sunday’s event. In the modified division the addition of the UK cars has ensured that more than twenty five cars will fight it out for the fifteen available positions in the finals, while in Stockhatch just four overseas entries were required to push this always impressive grid to over the thirty mark.

In the top division, Tyrone’s Derrick Jobb has sown up the championship and will now turn his attention to beating the increased competition provided by the UK visitors and trying to secure the overall Irish title where he currently trails modified division leader Michael Coyne from Naas. The British entry will be led by reigning champion Lawerence Gibson with his Metro 6R4, the Father and son team of Pat and Liam Doran with their Fiesta’s, Welsh man Mike Manning’s Puma, and 2007 Mondello winner Steve Hill with his rare Mitsubishi Supercar. The Irish entry includes runner-up to Jobb in the Irish Supercar division, Eddie Kinirons, who will return with his Focus after a couple of events with his Rally-spec Celica, and Tommy Graham who is aiming to finally debut his new Fiesta.

In the modified division The UK visitors will have their work cut out to beat local hot-shoes Michael Coyne and his brother Willie. The two Vauxhall Nova drivers have been so quick this season that they currently lead the overall Irish championship. Unfortunately for Willie after the mandatory discounting of each drivers lowest score he drops from the top spot down to third behind Michael and Derrick Jobb. In their own division however the Coynes are virtually guaranteed the top two spots with Michael the most likely to become champion. Of the UK visitors two of the 2008 top three will again be present in the form of reigning champ James Bird’s Clio and Mike Howlin’s Fiesta. Also entered are some un-conventional but extremely quick machines such as Antrim based Don Shannon’s Volvo S40, the Vauxhall VX220 of Mike Turpin, Michael Boak’s Audi TT and the Lotus of John Smith.

The Ten-Tenths.com Stockhatch championship still remains to be decided and with some very quick UK visitors in the field anything could happen. Three drivers are still in contention, with Michael Duke leading Noel O’Brien and Junior championship graduate Robert Critchley. Of the British Championship runners Phil Chicken has always performed strongly at Mondello and he should make it difficult for the locals. The Junior division of the British championship does not travel to Mondello for this event, so it is left up to the Jondol championship regulars to provide the entertainment here. The title has already gone to UK raider Daniel O’Brien, who has taken six wins form six events, but with the English youngster not in attendance this weekend the way is open for a new Junior star to emerge.
Twelve Supercars? I like the sound of that

Unfortunatelly I wont be there due to breaking my gearbox testing last weekend.

Trust me it's not through lack of trying to be there to say the least and it was one event i was really up for as i'd been looking forward to. Wanted to get on track and play with the irish scoobys and tustling with my old stock hatch spa'ing partner paul pascoe.

It's been a bit of a kick in the teeth to be honest as the car has had a lot of work done over the winter and in testing it was massively quicker and far more balanced than last year, so i'm now itching to get the season up and running.

Looks like pembrey now for me (sorry for letting the side down)

Rough luck Si Good to hear you're happier with the car though.

The Dorans will have both Fiestas out to play - so there's Dermots old car and is the other a new shell after the fire? Or was it salvagable? It'll be good to them them both out together (presumably in matching paint schemes?) although I'll be mourning the loss of the RS200.....

From the Final Instructions:

SCRUTINY: On Sunday 8th scrutiny will commence at 7:30am and finish at 8:45am. Please ensure you are at the
circuit early enough to facilitate the prompt starting of the event.

So from this it looks like there won't be any Scrutiny on Saturday evening, but you might want to give Mondello a call to confirm this.
