My magic moment..
8:45, Saturday 26th June 2004.
As a walk through the damp gate way and head towards the ticket stalls, I pause for a moment next to the small wooden fence surrounding the startline turning circle. About 10ft infront of me JM Fangio II is sitting in a 250F, head cocked to one side, red sweater, no helmet, chatting to his mechanic. Spooky how this image could be from 50n years earlier. About 15ft to his left Moss is calmly bringing the Streamliner to a halt, relaxing regally under a brolly in the familiar white helmet. He smiles as Mass leaps out of his Merc and chats to Surtees in the longer Silver car, eyes like a 10 year old, before going over to reaquaint himself with the D50 parked alongside. The tranquil scene, reminisant of an English country lane on a damp Autumn afternoon, is briefly shattered by a Ferrari being flicked 90degrees on the power, neatly slotting into a parking space next to the Moss Mercedes. I stand for a while and rattle off a few photos, feeling like I have gatecrashed a very private and intimate moment. I haven't even got through the turnstile, and 6 hour journey has already been worth the effort. Anybody else got any great memories from the Festival last weekend? |

That perfectly sums up what the Festival is all about.
I too entered by that gate last year with some German friends who were over for the Festival on the Saturday and Duxford Flying Legends on the Sunday. What a weekend they had, first time at both events! It took an age to get them away from the fence you mention and through the turnstiles to actually enter the event! |

Amazing! I would say the best one I have attended, but I say that every year. Things I will never forget, in no particular order:
Standing behind JV as he pulled his fathers helmet on and got in the Ferrari, Seeing JV powerspin the Ferrari in the wet under a tree canopy, minutes after sitting in it for the first time, Meeting Markku Alen (Hero), Getting a book signed by Alen, KKK, Vatanen, Col McRae, Ragnotti, and Carlsson Chatting to Panis about his tyres after the burnouts, Seeing Emmo climb aboard Ferrari F2001, Vic Elford & Brain Redman posing for my camera sat together on Porsche 908s... Sorry, but I could go on all night indulging myself in memories. Anybody else? Roll on September and the Revival. |

Nothing to do with the Festival Of Speed but going North on the M5 last Sunday and spying quickly on the Southbound carriageway a Brescia Bugatti, in light blue, being driven at a good speed minus lights and mudguards
Great to see a nice old car being used! - I guess it was on it's way back from Shelsey |
