Ron Tauranac
Sad to see Ron Tauranac has passed away. Father of all the Real Brabhams and a constant source of knowledge right up to his passing.

Saw this too. He had done a lot for Brabham, him and Sir Jack were a great partnership and of course he also built the Ralt cars that were so succesful in lower formula. Hadn't really heard from him much since the 80s, but he lived a good long life. May this legend RIP

The early involvement in Brabham Racing and afterwards the formation of Ralt Cars ensures Ron's place as one of the leading lights in race car construction.
Personal recollections include the ground breaking RT3 F3 car, Honda engined F2 cars, Mike Thackwell's rise to prominence, and a 'works' like effort in F3000 with Honda. |

Nice comments about Ron in this interview with Aussie Touring car legend Larry Perkins who was employee #1 at Ralt, and ran a Ralt in Euro F3 quite successfully in the 70's.

One of the great innovators, I was amazed at how good an old F3 BT21 was when I fitted a Twincam engine for a mate many years ago. RIP Ron.

Sad news indeed, even though he lived to a good age.
A very quiet, unassuming man who achieved a remarkable amount without shouting about it. RIP Ron, a pleasure to have known you. |
