Calls for Series to Unite
Reigning champ car title holder Gil De Ferran says that the two single seater series in America should join together to make one series (IRL and Champ cars).
He says this would stop all the public confusion and make better racing. In my opinion i think having the 2 seperate series is better in terms of racing quality, and besides the grids would be too large wouldn't they??? I'd be interested to read your views. and the debate rages on ...
The 2 camps running these series' have historically had diametrically opposed philosophies of what open wheel racing in NA is all about. i.e. USA only or international; oval only or road/street/oval; low tech or high tech (I mention that one with some trepidation!). Initially there was also a BIG issue with egos and personalities. The ego and personality issues appear to have cooled significantly, however the philosophy of racing doesn't appear to have changed at all. I can't see a merger; unless it becomes necessary for survival, which is possible but will be fraught with great difficulties. |
