VZ Commodore
Thoughts on the VZ Commodore range as reviewd in "Wheels" magazine. Gets a good rating, stops short of proclaiming the SV6 190kw a better car than the BA XR6 (non-turbo).

Matt, the engine is a bit harsh. Not enough of a change really. The engine is not very impressive the new trans is ok not great but they have to do a major rethink with VE

Why would you expect a new model to be harsh?
Do they send them out waiting for buyers to complain before they fix the harshness? |

How long before the VZ's get the 6 litre GenIV engines?
Are these going to come standard in the SS's? |

Aside from the vents in the sporty models, it's hard to tell a VZ from a VY.

The headlights are more squared on the VZ and the tailights have the current trendy clear look. Interiors look the same.

According to a mate of mine who works at a Holden dealer, the new V6 has had alot of issues already. Smaller version of the Gen III?

I have now driven half a dozen of these things I have got out of each one thinking why would holden build an engine that seems to have a lot less torque and power than a VN Commodore

Why would they have to de tune it ?
Most people want their torque in the low rev range |

They had to de tune, people who bought the first VN's where always complaining about poor fuel consumption and a rough idel. One of the main problem was the cam they had in the engine. So they had to go to a milder cam to improve idel an d fuel consumption. I remeber as an apprentice a custome who had a V8 Calais and a V6 Exec and he was always complaining the V8 had much better fuel consumption

I've never known anyone to complain over having to drive a V8 because it was more economical

I drive VZ Commodores at work and have been disappointed that they seem slower than the ut going VY in the lower spec V6 engine.
The car doesn't have the seat of the pants oomph of the Falcon. |

Well I had one until yesterday as a loaner but the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) failed. No start nothing. I have a very steep driveway here so it was fun watching the towie get the ***** with it. Particular with comments like "I am sick of picking up bloody broken down Holdens thats all I seem to do these days"
