24 hours of Nurburgring
I have doubts about 24 hours of Ring rules for this year.
I know that DTM cars can run, surely Abt´s Audi and Phoenix´s Opels will be in the race but my doubts are: Can run Vipers this year??? I have heard any about turbo cars, but I am not sure if it was about restrictions for them, Can anybody explain me the new rules please??? |

Turbocharging will be limited to such cars where a turbo option is (or: has been, not sure about the actual phrasing) available on the road car. Turbo coefficient will be 1.7.
If you mean "are Vipers allowed", then the answer is yes. With the exception of the turbo cars and some slight modification to aero regs for the "specials" class, the rules haven't changed. From what I have heard, Zakspeed will be back with one car. "Do they have a chance" is a different question... Last edited by cybersdorf; 20 Jan 2003 at 00:20. |

I watched the one hour version of the 24 Hours at the Nurburgring last year and its a long endurance race around a 17 mile course and a multitude of classes.

Which classes run?
Presumably the start on the current circuit, then make their way round onto the Norschliefe, all the way round that and back onto the current circuit? |

Its a shame that there are not much attractive cars in this race , i was their the last 3 Years because i life only a few miles away from the "ring". I would love to see some LMP/GTS/Fia GT cars in this race , instead of a dozen touring car Alfas Maybe we get a ALMS Race this year , but i stopped hoping for this long time ago. |

I'd say there have been ALMS and GA GT grids much less attractive. The old track can't take the prototypes anymore, we all know that. Unrestricted FIA GT2 cars would be too fast as well. The current rules are the max. of what is possible. |

The Opel team carried out a 12 hour test in Spain a few weeks ago in preperation for the race.

Acid09 - point taken. But, where in the world are you going to get 210 exciting GTs? Put the FIA, GA, ALMS, JGTC field together and you'll still have a few empty rows to fill See it as the ultimate GT vs. touring car showdown - and sometimes it's tough to tell which is which! |

Next year?
I am really looking forward to this race; it has the ingredients to be very good. The Viper most likely won't dominate like it has done since '99. Maybe the Skyline will bow out with a win? |

This year's 24 looks fantastic. Those M3 GTRs are going to be hard to beat. The GTRs were knocking on Corvette/Viper doors in 2001 at ALMS tracks, so I'm sure they'll be right on the pace of the Vipers at the 'Ring. They have a great driver line-up too. And those Opels should be right on the pace as well. Fun fun.
