Some good racing at the Rock yesterday. My first visit there and impressed with the views, facilities & commentary for the speccies. Group 1 was extremely competitive, Kumhos had some great racing, Joss dominated CT.

Yes it was good Unfortunately and I have just fixed it while on the trailer as I need to drive it into my garage and it took 2 minutes with a spanner, a silly bolt that holds the selector link to the linkage worked loose leaving me with no gears then when I coasted into the pit lane I found one, 2nd! So I just poodled round to finish the race to get the points. Little gutted actually as I was a bit nervous attacking Turn 1 on the first race and lost a lot of time but after watching a couple of races I see the way to do it, i.e. get high on the wall down the straight and drop down into the corner and I was doing OK in the 2nd race after a blistering start then the transmission problem and believe it or not thats a similar problem three races in a row but has always been a different reason but the same end result.

Some good action shots here, tell me where can you find a Camaro, an Avenger and a BMW CS Coupe battling in one shot these days, excellent! :-)

Good to see you again Al. Shame about you probems with your car, especially after a cracking start in your second race. Watching you trying to pull out of scrutineering, and your comment ''who needs more than one gear'' made me smile! Todays racing was good, finished up in the S/C for FRens and Pick-Ups.
Good photo's too. |

Bit of video here from my race 1 PHTC's and yes I know I was taking Turn 1 all the wrong way and loosing a stack of time and should really have not let the Avenger past but I got the hang of it for the 2nd race after watching a couple of races then lost the gears after doing much better in the opening laps! What you cannot see in the vid is the Avenger and BMW CS harrying me so there was a bit of defensive driving going on and I feel confident the Avenger was mine on the next lap but the Escort spun at the chicane so they red flagged the race. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezdLwfVzojM
Hear that baby sing and then tell me hand on heart yer don't like V8's! |

Whats not to love Al, that V8 growl gets you every time. Looked like hard work in your big boy with nowhere to really stretch his legs but good fun all the same.

Thanks Mike, I know some of the Histo boys are not keen on them so it was a gentle dig at them in the niceist possible way you understand. ;-) Actually once I found me way around in the 2nd race and attacking turn 1 properly I was doing OK till I lost all gears bar 2nd.

Al, they all have their place. I think that most of us actually do like the V8s, but it all got out of hand at the Silverstone Classic last year when we had 16 Mustangs/Falcons on the grid to the detriment of the other classes, and completely out of context to the period the race was trying to emulate. They were earlier cars than yours, of course.

Yes I can see the concerns there as it happens and I have no wish to run in a series with all yanks either, as it is my one yank in Post Historics generates a lot of interest which I like as it helps promotion. Maybe if they were properly policed to make a more level playing field and required to weigh more as in CTCRC events they may not be such a popular choice as they can be hard work to live with.

Just seen the pictures from Rockingham on the excellent
http://www.splitsecondphotographic.c...__classic.html Al, Was there an issue with eligibility of rear wings for the Sunbeam & Starion in Classic Thunder? |

No I don't believe so, the rear wing rule was amended for this season. The rules generally have been opened up at least in certain classes but have actually been tightened up a bit for the Hot Car catagoury to allow more cars in. Its more Denis Bassom's baby who posts here so he will probably fill you in.

Joss Ronchetti also does Heritage GT in the Lotus Sunbeam, and if it wasn't your crowd, Al, I think possibly that even that series, where almost anything seems to go, decided that the wing was a step too far, but I may well be wrong. Besides, I'm not sure Joss found that it bestowed much advantage on a shape that already has the aerodynamics of a brick. With a 2.7 litre engine developing about 320 bhp it is way beyond anything achieved in period but is a fabulous piece of kit, nevertheless!

Well here is the reg not sure if it has changed or not as I am not involved with Classic Thunder anymore and no longer enter it.

Oh hang on I see where we are coming from now, both cars are sans rear wings, well to be honest I never heard anything about this. We do actually have a new scrut who seems pretty much on the ball. Last edited by Al Weyman; 20 Sep 2009 at 08:14. Reason: Just spotted removed wings |
