new points system
apparently (last weks motoring news) Dave Richards want to bring back the old system of points for 1st to 10th places. WHere it used to start at 20 points for a win.
He reckons that with 3 cars per team they should have points for more places. I dont know wheather he mean that all 3 cars can score. If it does I cant see any change for the minor teams. 3 Ford, Pug, Citroen, and Scooby Lock out all the points. If they do this they have to keep 2 scoring cars as there are plently of privateers that are capable of scoring WRC points... |

Can't see much benefit of this at first glance. Also it will throw it out of line with the other FIA Championships, such as F1

As it wouldn't affect the Teams standings, I think it could be a good idea. Drivers who finish 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th drivers just as hard as the drivers who finish in the top 6. Some may driver slightly harder.

It seems ridiculous that rally should have the same pointscore as F1 when you consider that there might be 70 or 80 cars in a rally and just 22 in a GP. Of course the top ten should all get points.

Don't know if it applies to WRC, but in F1 those teams who score at least 1 point in the season get a sort of "travel allowance" from the FIA. Maybe the FIA's not rich enough to extend the points to 10th place.

There's no reason for F1 and WRC to share _any_ rules in common, and just finishing a rally is still an accomplishment. I say definitly change it, to give the guys in back some acknowledgement, and maybe make teams orders a little less of a factor.

I'm for it. WRC is extrememly competitive and it can be very disheartening for teams to end the season with 0 points after investing lots of dosh.
