Top Marks for "Oulton Park"
For a first time marshal or an old hand, visiting a new Circuit can be some what daunting. Where do I sign on? How do I get to my post? Where do I park my car at the post? What are the do's & Don'ts" at this circuit?
Well this is not the case at Oulton park. As with any other circuit I've been to I was made welcome on arrival, and then asked if I want to take the "Walk round" during the morning qualifying session. I was told by another marshal that this would be a very benificial idea and indeed it was. As a newcomer to the circuit you are taken round the circuit (on foot)and visit most posts (which meets with welcomes from all the working marshals most of which you never spoke to at sign on because you didn't know them),shown where to park your car for that particular post,a few interesting facts about the circuit and grounds are thrown in for good measure. You are then taken round race control and the Med Center and then get to choose which post you would like to go on in the afternoon. All of which eleviates any of the worries I mentioned earlier and goes a long way to making you feel part of the "Team". A big thank You to Cliff Hammond who took us round and to Marshal girl who was my initial contact. I will certainly be marshalling at Oulton again and think other circuits could learn a lot from this "Walk Round" idea. Last edited by The Sweeper; 26 Apr 2004 at 17:21. |

Re: Top Marks for "Oulton Park"
Glad you enjoyed both the tour and your day at Oulton.
Were you the marshal with the green badge and where did you end up working? Last edited by KayBee; 26 Apr 2004 at 17:36. |

Yes I was and I ended up at Fosters.
With some very very potential "carnage" situations but I think the "Gods" must have been looking after the drivers that day. |

The next meeting on May 15th looks an absolute cracker!
Full International Circuit, plus Double Header NWFF160 which mean FOUR RACES of Formula Fords! Can't wait! |
