kerbs hand drawn

hey folks, kinda vanished for a bit there, but im back.

I had another thread that was less than successful and have given up on paint and sketch up. so, as the title implies, there will be hand drawn designs here. unfortunately, access to a scanner isn't possible just yet, so youll have to settle for photos for now.

and so, here is track 1 in this new thread. running anti clockwise, I used a scale of 1cm=50m. the start/finish straight on bottom of the track is 18cm long

It very much reminds me of the type of angular designs that I used to do before I started using Sketch-up.
The area around T4 looks a little congested, I can't see enough detail of that area to judge whether there is enough run off.

Nice work all the same

with the 1:50000 scale, the turn 4 run off is 50m

thanks to all for your feedback, I shall now reveal track 2.

using the same 1cm=50m scale, the straight at the very bottom is 15cm, or around 750m

ok, a little disappointed by lack of response, but anyway, moving on

track 3 is another track using the 1cm=50m scale, the start/finish straight is 11cm, or 550m

and yes, I am aware of the error involving pit in and the outside sweeper, competitors will have to negotiate the chicane to enter pit lane

track 4 on the other hand is one of the shortest non karting track in my collection, using a scale of 1cm=25m, giving the S/F straight a length of 11cm(275m). I have divided the track into 3 sectors, sector 1 ending between 4&5, sector 2 ending just after 7, with sector 3 completing the lap

You have chosen a nice color scheme. The track has got enough straights with tight corners at their end to provide overtaking. But it is very stop-and-go due to a rather high number of sharp corners with a small radius. I guess it is this type of character that you were going for. I think you have achieved that a driver can get into a rhythm easily in spite of this. Bureau Tilke would be proud if they had come up with the design. It could be quite good, given undulating terrain in the right places. Yet, drivers would probably still complain about the many tight corners.
Thank you for this interesting study in track character. I like it when a track does not have "a bit of everything" but a distinct character instead.

I've taken one of your designs and imported it into SKetchup

The reason for doing this is to help you understand your scaling better.

For length the track measures out at 5.356km which is not bad at all.

However as you'll notice I've narrowed your track down by about half. Your track was about 28m wide pretty much everywhere, and wider still in bits.

In Sketchup I usually do my circuit 14.5m wide, and so that's what I've shown on yours.
This also shows the pitlane sizes. I know you made comment about an error in the pits, I've taken what I thought you meant to have a direct access from after the chicane.
The point being that the pitlane itself needs only to be 2 cars wide, so around 4m is what I use.

As I've posted before, these aren't bad designs, don't be disheartened by a lack of response. My Tracks isn't getting a lot of traffic at the moment, but keep putting designs up they are being looked at.

ok, I should probably point out before I release any more is that the scale only affects the length of a circuit, not the width, thanks for bringing that to my attention SBF

track 5 is actually a part of a bus route that I saw and drew up

its scale is 1cm=25m, with the front straight being 10cm, or 250m

sorry for the gap between tracks 6 & 7, but here is track 7. may be better for bikes than cars, but should be functional for both. runs counter clockwise. scale is 1cm=50m, with the s/f straight being 11cm (550m)

keep the same basic shape, but move the pit straight further to the right, paling a long run to the hairpin. The pit lane then comes inside the circuit ....Oh and finally reverse the direction

now i know no one asked for this, but I got bored one day and modified and completed the 33km circuit. I probably made the combined configuration longer with the new GP circuit.

track 20 is more of a complex, with about 20 different layouts crammed into it. main configuration is clockwise but there are 2 anticlockwise layout, both use the centre S/F line and turn left.

track 21 contains a fast, oval style first half with minimal runoff, and a slow second half with plenty of runoff. scale is 1cm=30m, giving the start/finish straight a length of 300m(10cm). T1 has 10 degree banking and T4 has 4 degree banking. pit out is not banked.

This a very interesting design. It's got all that is necessary for a proper test track and is also raceable. So it's a perfect site for sportscars and prototypes doing endurance racing. The Esses are especially lovely.

track 25 is a street styled permanent facility, with a shorter layout for formula e. the corner on the far side has 5 layouts by itself (parabolica, 90-90, 45-135, 135-45 and 45-90-45). there are 2 straights after T2/3 separated by a wall with the inner straight containing a surfers paradise style chicane the break it up for formula e cars. Formula e layout also uses the hairpin 1-2-3 sequence (sorry AOB), while other categories use the 90 degree T1&2 and outer straight. scale is 1cm=30m, giving the front straight a length of 450m(15cm). as it is a street circuit, big kerbs and a surface about as bumpy as Sebring's sunset straight are a must.

track 26 is a 12 cornered, anticlockwise circuit with a unique pit lane and final corner combination. the entrance starts at T11 and has a sudden drop to go under T12 and rise back up to even before the speed line. the 2 sided pit lane has 12 and 18 garages respectively. there will be a 4 garage complex at the top for scrutineering and weigh bridge. scale is 1cm=20m, with the front straight being 400m(20m). the track is 10m wide except for the front straight after the pit out being 16m. the pit out is not a white line but a barrier to separate the pit out and exit of T12.

I would like opinion on the horse shoe pit lane

300m for a pit straight is a bit short, The old Silverstone pit straight was 400m and even then the later grid spots went around Woodcote bend.
Unless of course your looking at rolling starts only into that big banked corner.
