Touring car racing in Uruguay
Last weekend I attended the final round of the Uruguayan circuit racing championship.
We got late and could only watch two races: Superturismo and South American Formula 4. All Superturismo cars use a 2.0L Cosworth engine developing 225 hp. Several importers support teams, therefore you get to see Peugeots with Le Mans stripes, blue and white Hyundai, Castrol Volkswagens, YPF Chevrolets, and a couple of Chinese factory entries. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/C...ión_AUVO_2016 |

So Superturismo - that's like NGTC? Spec-engine in a roadcar chassis? Or are those all out silhouettes? Also wondering - is there any kind of 2nd hand series in Uruguay where people would race older TC2000s or Brazilian-stockcars? |

The Superturismo are actual road car chassis. Powertrain is spec.
In addition to Superturismo, the AUVO has three other touring car classes (which I missed because we arrived late): * Turismo Libre (non-spec, plenty of old VW Gol) * Superescarabajos (old VW Beetles, cheap and cheerful) * Chevrolet Sonic Racing Cup (unmodified road cars) There's other formula classes: Fórmula 4 Uruguaya, Fórmula Vee and Fórmula Super Vee. But I don't know how many entries they have. We don't import old race cars from Argentina or Brazil. There's been rumors that a company wants to sell Argentine TC Pista cars here, but there's no official announcements yet. |

Apparently the Fórmula Súper Vee was to replace the old Fórmula Vee in 2016, with 1.6L Ford engines. But it's not been held, I think.

Road cars. Not too powerful either, say 80-120 hp (I actually have no idea).

Thread bump!
Last year I attended the final race of the Uruguayan circuit racing championship (photos and videos). Next weekend it's round 2, I plan to attend. The old Turismo Libre class has been replaced by Superturismo Clase 2, which are barely less expensive than the main Superturismo. The formula classes have collapsed, although the Uruguayan Formula 4 is scheduled for next weekend. There's also a Turismo Histórico for 1970s and 1980s cars, but they race seldomly as well. The Autódromo V?*ctor Borrat Fabini de El Pinar has been extended to almost 3500 meters. |

We arrived very late, and only watched three races.
The Superescarabajos were very entertaining as usual. Having low weight, low traction and rear wheel drive is a great combination for the show. Of course they are quite slow, but whatever. The Superturismo race had about 22 acars. The winner was an acquaintance, who had a great car and had no trouble despite the multiple safety cars. The show was ok. The Formula 4 Uruguaya was pointless with just 6 cars in a 3.2 km racetrack. The Superturismo Clase 2 had 8 cars, the Copa Super Sonic had 8 cars, and the Turismo Histórico had 11 cars. |

Yesterday I went to El Pinar, and took some photos.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/C...ntas_AUVO_2021 Gustavo Trelles had a Mitsubishi Evo III stuck in customs for like two decades. He got some help to retrieve it and restore it. |

This weekend it's round 1 of the Uruguayan circuit racing championship. It's a special race with two drivers per car.
An unusual number of Argentine drivers will be present, including Leonel Pern?*a, Emiliano Spataro, Julián Santero, Facundo Ardusso and Andrés Jakos. Also present will be Mauricio Lambiris, Marcos Landa, Eddy Mion, Cyro Fontes, Rodrigo Armend?*a and Michel Bonn?*n, who are currently racing in Argentina. Also, Carolina Larratea will become the first woman to driver in Uruguayan Superturismo, joining his brother Fabricio Larratea. |

The AUVO president Julio Maglione talked with former F1 announcer Mario uberti.
https://motormario.com/charla-con-el...nuevo-circuito The TCR World Tour promoter has let them do a minor reform at El Pinar for this year, but they want a full reform for 2024. The association wants to buy more terrain to expand El Pinar, so they can also bring the TC2000 and Stock Car Brasil. But the neighbors are asking for ridiculous amounts of money. If that problem isn't solved, the AUVO is seriously considering building a new racetrack close to Montevideo, be it in the Canelones or San José department. |

This weekend tehere's no TC, TC2000, TN or Top Race. Therefore, the AUVO will have the first round at Mercedes, featuring the Superturismo two-driver race.
