Motorclassica Melbourne
Yesterday I went along to the Motorclassica concours which was appropriately held at the world heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building at Carlton just north of the city. The cars entered in the concours are listed here - http://www.motorclassica.com.au/concours-entrants.
This is one of the poster cars for the event, a M-B 540K originally owned by Heinkel. Highlights included about 8 WO Bentleys, a couple of Delages, a few very nice Lancias (Lambda ser 7, Astura conv, Flaminia GT, Aurelia B24), and three of the first four RHD Porsches built. Personal favourites included this Tucker Torpedo recently brought into the country, I had not expected to ever see one of these in the flesh. ... and this McLaren F1, no more needs to be said really! Unfortunately my camera battery didn't last long enough so I can't share a lot of the cars, but there are some more pictures here |

Cheers John. The organisers aim to make this event Australia's Pebble Beach, can't remember the event they used as a comparison in the UK.
When I get some time I can expand on the history of some of the cars as they all had info boards. |

John, that would be good. This forum is not particularly well supported but this time of year we have an opportunity to liven it up a bit, I guess.

Ok, finally been moved to do some more on this thread. I'm still quite impressed at the collection of cars they brought together for the show months later. I'm also annoyed that I wasn't able to photograph so many of the cars - I'm used to using a camera with 2x2500mAh batteries so 1x800mAh is quite different...
This is a 1939 Wanderer W25K sports roadster, I presume there would not be too many of these around. It has a 2-litre 6-cyl supercharged engine with 85hp, designed by Ferdinand Porsche, and this car was at Pebble Peach for Audi's 100th anniversary celebrations in 2009 1936 Cord 810 Sportsman cabriolet. A well-known marque but rare and this was an excellent car, and has an interesting history being originally owned by George Putnam, husband of Amelia Earhart, and is painted 'Eleanor Blue' due to her friendship with Eleanor Roosevelt. It has been in Australia since 1991, and recently appeared in the Tom Hanks WWII tv series "The Pacific". Finally a magnificent polished-alloy 1919 24hp Sunbeam, 4.5-litre 6-cyl. This car began life as a saloon in Sydney, but was dismantled in the 1950's and the original body and engine separated from the car. After a rescue in the 1870's a correct type replacement engine has been fitted together with the sports body (not to mention an exhaust free of any type of muffler). As mentioned earlier I don't have a lot of photos from this event, but a few Bentleys if anyone is interested in more info or the history of the cars, some of the modern supercars & 1960's cars - see here.
