Team orders?

Just wondering, Lenny Kravitz said during the race that a Ferrari PR man told him that both drivers had been told to back off for the rest of the race (for the last stint). Surely, as this allows the guy in front an easier time, does it constitute as a team order? If so, isn't that against the rules?

Views?

Ferraris, ahem, policy.

So today was another one of those battles for the lead that nearly happened, but not quite.

It seems Ferrari only let their cars battle for so long and then decide to switch off totally and roll to the finish in formation.

All very nice. But do you agree with it?

My feeling is that they should race to the finish. Motorsport is a battle to see who can finish the race first, not complete all their stops first. So i don't agree with this thing that Ferrari does.

On the other hand, I guess Ferrari worry about their cars hacking each other off the track. It's all too easy to think that way with Michael in one of the cars I guess, as evidenced today when he chopped Rubens!!!

But can you really see them taking each other off? Purlease....

Monsieur Todt.....let your cars race to the flag. The race was shaping up beautifully, but you called off the inter team battle before Rubens could have another go at passing Michael.

You are leading the constructors championship by miles and are hardly in danger of losing anything......go on, have a little fun mate!

Simply, teams always tell drivers in 1-2 position to hold their postion towards the end of the race. Simple common sense...it may not be best for show..but it's the only sensible thing to do.

It's happened to every team, and it's definitely not new.

They said pre-race "it was up to Rubens" get out clause there. It a shame really. I am anti-ferrari and will state that but I do think TGF got past RB to easily on the restart and wonder why RB sliced 20 seconds out of MS and did not pass him later in the race. Turn the engine down by all means by still lets race a bit hey.

Toad: Rubenzz, I order you to slow down.
ribit.

Schu: "wez both hadz tyre problem, Rubenzz was worse off than me, so both we really had to slow down big time."
That was from another race somewhere when Rubens was Schumacher's mandatory tail gunner, probably using 50 calibres.

I'd think that that did break the rules regarding team orders but then again do Ferrari have to follow any rules.

Of course, the simple message from pits "Push!" can also be considered as team orders?

Agree that it's not new Gt_R, but is it still a team order? If it is, isn't that against the rules?

Thats ridiculous "Push" means go faster, "hold station" means the opposite.

Well what you do is you stick that front wheel into the rear wheel of the car in front (when its weaving across your bow) and then you lift as it starts to spin then you plant the foot and go through. Just like what happened today.

Er no. Just like what should have happened today. (I know I'll get it right one day).

[joke]

I did think that maybe Rubens should have lifted off the throttle just before the start/finish line at the first restart, just so that Michael would have overtaken him earlier

Once again, the critics showed their complete inability to accept things positively when it comes to Ferrari.

Sigh..

of course, the ease at which Kimi overtook David completely escape the eyes of everyone, and well..THAT's called racing huh?

Ease off GT_R.

You couldn't help but notice how Rubens backed off after Michael told him not to be so silly.

Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is.............. team orders?

freud has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Team orders were employed, yet again, and Rubens wasnt allowed to take on MS after his last pitstop. Its a big shame, really. I do think Rubens was by far the driver of the entire weekend/race and if he'd won, I'd be happy.

Point again is 'was there a radio message' to the two drivers?? Rubens did try one move on MS (which was just fantastic, imho) though for some strange reason, backed off immediately afterwards and maintained a considerable distance between himself and MS till the end. Any reports of angry 'Todt-Rubenho' verbal communication??

Possibly, Kimi took DC because he was so much faster? Rubens was faster than Michael at the start of the last stint, settled into being 3.5 seconds behind after getting the call from the pits and stayed there for the duration.

It may sound cynical, but this is the second race in succession that Rubens has been faster, but hasn't got past! Didn't it strike you as odd that on the slowing down lap, Rubens went nowhere near Michael to congratulate him?

Everyone knows it's Ferrari policy that they fight it out until the final stops, then it's hold stations (it's been pointed out nearly every race by MB.) Rubens was screwed by his middle stint. He had more fuel than TGF, sure, but only just missed out on overtaking him anyway. A shame...

Todt: "Do what we want, we can".

And they can. It was fair enough, it's not a coincidence that they have bullet proof reliability. They avoid the bullets as much as they can.

A shame. Rubes might have been able to do it, but if he hadn't have had a poor restart then he would have been on the receiving end.

More generally the FIA team orders rule is pants, so it concerns me little.

No.. usually his brakes/gearbx have problems. This it was that big chunk of debris he picked up from the straight which completely destroyed his right bargeboard and endangered his suspension..

If thats Ferrari policy, why did Rubens attempt the move in the first place?
