Formula Renault UK rounds 1 & 2 - predictions
This weekend, alongside F3 at Snetterton, the Formula Renault UK season begins. With Hamilton clear favourite going into the first double-header meeting, will it be as easy as some predict, or will one of the others be able to beat him?
Time for predictions please! There are two races to predict the top five for, so you can predict either the same or different for both. You get two points for a right driver in the right place, or one point for one in the wrong place. You also get a bonus point for guessing the pole time to within 0.1 second, and this will also be used in the event of a tie. You might want to remember that qualifying for both races is decided in a single session, with each driver's fastest lap deciding the positions for round 1, their second fastest deciding them for round 2. Hence the round 2 pole will be slower than round 1. Qualifying takes place on Saturday morning, with a race on Saturday and one on Sunday. Last edited by Paul Rayner; 17 Apr 2003 at 10:36. |

Let's give it a try
Race 1 1) Hamilton 2) Lloyd 3) Spencer 4) Jimenez 5) Conway pole: 1.05.500 Race 2 1) Hamilton 2) Spencer 3) Conway 4) Glew 5) Scott pole: 1.05.600 I only know that Hamilton and Jimenez are good, so I just had a quick look at the preseason testing results, so I hope i do wel Last edited by Daisy; 17 Apr 2003 at 12:01. |

In the first session he didn't get many laps, in the second he was consistent, but not amazingly quick. He drives with his head, he'll be thinking about finding a good race set up on his car, conserving tyres, etc. Maybe you'll see the new tyres get slapped on at the end of the day for a test qualifying run, maybe not. If he doesn't end the day up front, he's probably sandbagging like a trooper.

This is starting to look like hard work....two races and qualifying to score for this weekend, drivers now racing who weren't in preseason testing and other drivers who were in testing now not racing....who'd want to run a fantasy league - least of all leagues for the whole toca package and F3 as well.....
But for what its worth here are the www.fantasytocatour.co.uk team's selections: Race 1 1. Lloyd 2. Hamilton 3. Glew 4. Rossiter 5. Conway 1.05.700 Race 2 1. Hamilton 2. Lloyd 3. Rossiter 4. Sisley 5. Glew 1.05.900 Have a good weekend everyone.... Last edited by fantasytoca; 17 Apr 2003 at 16:12. |

You did look, you fibber!! Maybe it's because I know that Lloyd was busy fetching up this morning, so wasn't firing on all cylinders. He felt better after lunch (I've felt lousy for the last 2 days as well - wonder if there's a bug? Couple of the Motaworld folk had it as well, I'm told) and got a good time in, but in the last session was unlucky to come off on Suzie's oil (something went bang on her car when she was directly in front of him) and by the time he got the foliage out of the cockpit, etc, he only had time to scrub in 2 tyres right at the end, but didn't do a full new tyre run. So there should be a bit of time there. The chicane was terrible with the imbalance, apparently, although the long right handers were ok. We'll see. Luck can be a beautiful yet fickle mistress |

ahh i wondered why alex was shaking gravel out of his car on the way into the pits.
test sessions really don't show anything until the last few minutes. lewis really was taking the p*ss all day until he put in a couple of really good laps in the end. in fact, i think everyone was taking the mickey until the last 2 sessions when there was a silly number of red flags. bit too warm for my liking it was, but there was a nice strong wind towards the end of the day. i've stopped doing predictions because it started to curse things. |

Race 1:
1) Hamilton 2) Jimenez 3) Conway 4) Glew 5) Spencer Pole: 1:05.578 Race 2: 1) Hamilton 2) Lloyd 3) Spencer 4) Conway 5) Glew Pole: 1:05.672 I reckon Hamilton will take two poles, and that Spencer will be higher up the grid for race 2 than race 1. |

I popped in for a quick look yesterday - Hamilton's car looks a little bit more 'McLaren' like now with the dayglo pinstriping and airbrushed black bottom-of-sidepods, but Fabian Coulthard's car even more so.
JVA squad looks great in their red/silver livery. JVA also shook down their Euro F3000 car in the lunch break as it goes off on the truck to Estoril on Sunday. |

Coulthard's car does look very good, it's certainly easy to tell apart from the others! I agree that the JVA cars look good as well. Shame DFR have lost their scheme from the past few years - they looked quite good last year.
You missed the Welch cars though, because they're not doing Snetterton - they're certainly an "interesting" shade of bright green. |

ps: have only just got out of bed, have no idea if qualifying has happened (just in case, as is highly unlikely, my time is anywhere near pole) and have to rapidly pack to catch flight to Mondello!

Round 1 was:
1) Conway 2) Hamilton 3) Rossiter 4) Lloyd 5) Sisley Pole, Hamilton, 1:05.909 1) Lloyd 2) Conway 3) Hamilton 4) Rossiter 5) Murphy Pole, Conway, 1:05.989 Which makes the scores: fantasytoca 9* sgrok 8 racingdick 8* Mr Jinxx 8 Jonny Apex 6 pb btcc 5 Paul Rayner 5 Daisy 4 Well done to fantasytoca, who had faith in Lloyd and managed to score 9 points, including 1 for being within a tenth of a pole time. Everyone scored pretty badly though, considering this was a double-header. Testing wasn't really that helpful for predicting, was it? Last edited by Paul Rayner; 21 Apr 2003 at 16:51. |
