2010 - New mini enduro Appendix K series for Classic cars
The CSCC are to introduce a new mini enduro series for 4 and 6 cylinder cars conforming to FIA Appendix K regulations in 2010.
The CSCC will introduce the new "Classic K" series for those competitors who want to race their FIA Appendix K cars in a strictly controlled, value for money series at the top circuits in the UK, as well as at invitation events at Spa and the Nurburgring. The series is designed to attract owners of 4 and 6 cylinder GT & Touring Cars which have, as a model, international competition history & which were available prior to 31 Dec 1965. No sports racers will be eligible. This series will be quite a departure from Series previously run by the CSCC as it applies its tried, tested and extremely popular format of racing (2 driver or 2 car) 40 minute races with a compulsory pit stop to historic cars prepared to the standard of the day - as opposed to cars of the day developed to more modern capabilities using much modern technology, construction materials and principles. All cars must comply with FIA Appendix K Regulations and must hold current HTP papers or CSCC VIF papers for the Classic K series. Technical regulations will be enforced by the historic car specialist scrutineer, Jim Lowry, who will be on hand at all meetings to check eligibility. Competitors should be aware that it is intended to check every car at every round and especially for the following: • Ignition System (only points and condenser allowed). • Valve gear (no roller rockers). • Exhaust Manifolds (must comply with homologation papers). • Rim width. • Bodywork (period Appendix K approved shape and material). • Ground Clearance; 100mm for all un-sprung parts excluding exhaust systems. • TYRES; all cars must run on Dunlop L or M section tyres. Any car with a rim width of 6” or more must run L section tyres. If you are interested in taking part in this new series please contact the CSCC. |

Count me in. Nice of the CSCC to launch this just as I've got the Grantura HTP'd and was wondering where to race. Having been a member of the CSCC for a few years and enjoyed some great racing with the Swinging Sixties series I'm sure this will be a great success.

But lets hope that those who have harped on about the lack of Appk eligibility scrutineering put their money where their mouth is and support this series Something to note which may be overlooked when reading the format is that the series is for both sports (not sports racers) and touring cars to Appk spec. Terry, Just responding to competitor demand, and listening to the critics of the CSCC who have complained that the club has been too free with its regs!!! This series will be strictly enforced, whilst the CSCCs other series continue in their original formats. |

Not knocking it at all,it's about time that something such as this has been launched.I'm sure it will do well just as long as the policing is done very strictly it could turn out to be a huge success. |

I should have said in my earlier post that the Co-ordinator for the series will be Richard Wos.
More details & regs are on the CSCC web site. |

The Classic K provisional dates for 2010 are:
Thursday March 25th Snetterton (Test Day) April 10/11th Snetterton May 8/9th Brands Hatch (Indy) May 22/23rd Anglesey Saturday June 12th Oulton Park (International) June 18/19/20th Nürburgring (Nordschleiffe + GP) July 3/4th Spa Francorchamps Saturday July 31st Silverstone August 29/30th Mallory September 11/12th Cadwell Park (Full Circuit) Sunday October 16/17th Snetterton Costs: CSCC Membership - £35 (from memory) Vehicle Registration - £95 Not sure about race entry fees yet but they will be the same as for all CSCC series. This year it was £245 for Anglesey and £285 or £295 at the MSV circuits, for a 30 min practice and a 40 min race. There was also the possibility to enter a 15 minute sprint race at the end of the day (with its own 15 min practice session) for £95 this year & I hope that continues at most circuits. I'll ask the question! |

Would seem to be very similar to Equipe GTS rules. Almost a rival series? Interesting that Jim Lowry is the scrutineer as Jim was one of the guys who did so much to establish the GTS series.

Excepting that MGBs are allowed to run 1950/bigger in GTS. Hopefully not to be repeated on this occaision.

From the co-ordinator: "The CSCC VIF form is only to be used for cars that were not homologated in period. Examples are Ashley, Delta, Scimitar Straight 6 coupe, Rochdale.
The papers are there purely to allow enthusiastic owners of these rare cars to have the opportunity to race them in “K” spec, the CSCC VIF will be very strict". |

Appendix K is Appenix K, so the rules are bound to be similar & CSCC have always run series to a 40 min mini enduro format.

GTS run on modern tyres, as do 60's swingers. THis is the single biggest faux pas for historics IMO, and it kills body shells, at least original spec ones!

GTS regs:
Cars must use either Dunlop historic CR65 L or M section racing tyres, or any road legal tyre of at least 70 series profile. Most including me use Avons.
Most MGBs are 1950cc as that is the most sensible capacity. I certainly can't afford to build a new engine. |

Q: Has rthis been changed from 60 series ? ie, to stop what are effectively slick yokis? never the less ultra soft modern tyres are still hugely different and more efficient . . . . . Dunlops are stickier than anything in period as well, although rolling side walls etc do make a difference. Personally I think period correct genuinely retro style 'Slipwell never grip' tyres would be a good move, soon sort the men from the boys, and render a majority of non period mods utterly useless. |

Definitely not so strict as App K but nothing which can't be 'undone' if you want to race elswhere. The Avons don't look that modern at 70% profile. (not like Yokos!) Good luck to CSCC with the new series- waiting with interest to see what other clubs / organisers come up with |

Why is it the most sensible? Break a ring and you will have to either scrap the block or re-sleeve to AppK correct size anyway. |
