Sorry for date wrong the forum wouldn't let me post up the picture as already posted it elsewhere. Maybe a mod could be so kind as to alter it for me.

I heard from a friend today that it looks like the skylines and evos will be banned from classic thunder next year , if this is true it is a shame as I was rather looking forward to them playing at spa this year

Just all derivatives of Nissan Skyline and Mistubishi Evo. Its fairly straightforwards to dump a large amount of money into the Nissan and Evo to make them unreachable rockets. Still alright to have 4wd in an Escort Cossie, Impreza etc.
I'm mixed, I'll definitely miss the likes of Mark Biggers and Peter Cook running at the sharp end, but if it encouranges more cars out to play overall, then its gott o be a positive thing. I think it was just very unfortunate that 2013 was the year that Andy Robinson didn't have the Falcon available, Joss Ronchetti wasn't able to race etc. compared to 2012. I think my dark horse for race wins next year will be Steve Rowles, depending how quick he gets to grips with his new Impreza. Last edited by medius; 11 Dec 2013 at 11:33. |

Yes me as well Mark is a great competitor and I will miss him, I do believe the door is still open in the invitation class for these cars however. These cars were originally allowed in Aussie Touring cars before they went V8 but were eventually excluded.

There will still be a 4WD class in thunder for upto 2000cc cars so that will include the Mitsi Evo in standard engine size + Impreza, Escort Cossie, Toyota Celica GT4, etc. Full respect to Mark B and his Skyline but nobody would catch it without another Skyline, so would become boring and potentially off putting to anyone wanting to enter Thunder. Having looked at the lap times over the past three years it is apparent that in 2 litre trim this class will be very competitive with the likes of Andy Robinsons's Falcon, Piers Grange XR8 etc. Looking forward to 2014 with the CTCRC in its 40th anniversary year,

No but what would happen in the race series you no doubt are talking about Andy is the cars would be penalised every time they won with extra time delays in the pits which would basically be every time they entered and eventually no doubt not invited back as the other competitors would likewise kick off as the CTCRC competitors have, I just think its a damned shame whoever was in charge of the regs when the cars were admitted in didn't do their homework better and see what had happened in Australia etc and not have allowed them in the first place or if they were allowed then with restrictions. I feel its a tad unfair to let them in for one or two seasons then stop them after guys have spent fortunes preparing for the championship. BTW Andy you can change the rules on the fly in a series if its not working out remember but not in a championship also you cannot have any points scoring officially in a series exactly the same as in CTCRC Invitation class.

Al, some of what you say is true but I don't think we have ever let a car race with us and then kicked it out later for being too quick, that does seem a tad unfair, surely there are ways to even things out or to move such cars in to another series? Our success penalty is designed to even out the playing field a bit, albeit in a crude way. It seems to work for most. As long as the 4WD cars comply with the regs of the relevant series they are eligible. Simple as that. Although I admit that pre 1990 Skylines etc are the only ones eligible for "Future Classics", and "Modern Classics" has a limit of 2 litre turbos and pre 2000 MY.
The things that seems to put people with these sorts of cars off racing with us is the insistence on production aero only. That said, I'm a bit surprised that we haven't had much take up from Evo, Escort Cosworth and Imprezza owners. |

You haven't had a Nissan Skyline in yet lol! As for moving to a different series within the club there isn't any as Classic Thunder is the pinnacle event in the club.

yep the evo is banned
Not been on for a while so its good to read the debate and opinions of different people.
I was informed about the car been banned but told I can race anything else...so we do have an ex mini challenge car and we are on the look out for a thunder saloon....seen a bmw and an ex touring car but any recommendations would be great,i do want to be at the sharp end of the grid challengeing cars like the falcon and adies alfa. I am a bit disappointed about the evo as I didn't think It was too fast and definitely beatable. So I will be keeping it and using else where. Cheers Pete |
