Lola T70 MK3 & MK3b Drivers 1969

Information sought on drivers who raced Lola T70 Sports cars in 1969.

From the Easter Guards Trophy meeting in 1969 the following drivers took part.

Paul 'Hawkeye' Hawkins ( Known to have been killed at Oulton Park that year)

Joachim Bonnier Swiss( long time Lola racer killed at Le Mans, drove for Ecurie Fillipinetti often.)

Brian Redman 'Sid Taylor Racing) Where is he now ?

Chris Craft (Techspeed Racing) Mk3 Lola T70

David Piper ( still racing i believe, well known privateer)

Richard Attwood ( John Woolfe Racing,Driver still active .?) MK3 Lola T70

Trevor Taylor ( Team Elite)

Frank Gardner (Grand Bahama Racing Car Company)

Information on either the cars or team, or snippets on the drivers etc would be appriciated.
This will help an on going project on T70 's and their teams and drivers.

One more...

J. Bonnier/H. Müller, Scuderia Filipinetti, Osterreichring 1000km

In that race I think Piper raced with Quester in his own car, but I don´t remember well now, I have to check it.

Thanks for the information i have been trawling the net and will still be doing so for a few months . Then i have to collate all that i have so this is very helpful.

I also have a thread in the chassis archive section where i am in the process of finding as many of the T70's locations at the present. If i can trace the history of some of the cars while doing this i will happy.

Maybe you know this site:www.imca-slotracing.com. It´s a site for slot fans, but they've good information about some prototypes like Ferrari 512s, Porsche 917, or Lola T70. There isn´t information about the present, but you should visit: there´re many Lolas with some details as the number of chassis, pics (you will find the restored Lola T70 Mk III Penske), and races they did.

If I find more information I'II give you.

PS-I’ve found another driver, Digby Martland, who raced for John Woolfe Racing in the next BSCC’s events: Tourist Trophy (Oulton Park), and Wills Trophy (Croft).

Bonnier Lola should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I came across this forum whilst researching some history on my T70. I own the Ecurie Bonnier T70 MkIIIb SL76/143. Currently being rebuilt and is located in Lancashire. The Barbot (Portugal) and Sannett (USA) cars painted in the Bonnier colours are not the original car. Sannett caims his to be the original, however he does not have the original chassis plate as we do. It is beleived his car has been assembled from parts. Barbot's car was a production continuation car from the mid eighties I beleive, and very nice it is too.

T70 MK3B / SL76143 authentication

I happen to be reading about community postings regarding the T70 Lola's. I ran across the post below from a chap in the U.K. who indicated that he owned SL76/143. Since i have been the registered owner of this car since 1978 and have ALL of the back up paperwork to establish providence. People who claim ownership should beyond a shadow of doubt be able to substantiate their position. John Starkey in his last book clearly indicates by his account and by the presentation of qualified information. Starkey has clearly confirmed the providence of ownership of this car. there is no question. all owners were tracked down following Bonnier's death.

for those of you that care about the past and current ownership can correct their records accordingly.

Peter,

In addition to those you have listed, the official programme for the Guards International Trophy race at Snetterton also shows a T70GT Mk 3B entered by A.G.Dean (Racing) Ltd. to be driven by Tony Dean himself.

Whether or not the car actually raced I can't remember! I think I've got some colour transparencies from that meeting somewhere, I'll try & find them. No action stuff though - I was only a small boy with an Instamatic then.

Hi John.

The Dean car was a non starter along with the Grand Bahama Car Co. which broke some suspension in practice, and was driven by Frank Gardner .

However the sight and sound of all those T70'S has stayed with me from a 17 year old.

I remember the dice between Brian Redman's Sid Taylor's car , and Paul Hawkins red example as if it were yesterday.

Yes Darren, i am trying to find all the current owners/locations if possible hence i have 3 threads going , mk3 's mk3 b's and this one i have had some of the continuation cars on the 3b thread which helps.

I also know that there are 2 of some chassis claimed ie the Hawkins car .

I would also like to know that Tim Stock had a bent T70 in his yard in 1970/71 ish i assume that has been rebuilt but i dont know which car it was.

I wish i had paid attention when i was younger lol.
