Weight Reduction & Race preperation
Hi everyone.
I am taking the leap from Modifying my own road going car to partaking in Time Attack next season. In regards to weight reduction & Race prep for the car what should I be doing? Iv removed the basic's Air con, air con pump, rear seat's, boot trim, seatbelts, roof liner, front seats, carpet, door card's. Should I look at getting a larger tank for power steering & iv found after 2-3 laps that the power steering starts to boil? The base car is a Mitsubishi FTO Thanks in advance, Dan |

Run a simple cooler into the return pipe for the power steering I have heard even a coil of pipe in the airstream will do the trick. I was shown one fitted to a TransAM the other week which is a similar car to my yellow car. He used a small cooler dunno what it was off but would imagine Think Automotive would have somethink off the shelf.

Step back a bit
Why do you need power steering in the first place? If I rember correctly (probably not) the FTO is based on a Lancer or a Colt Chassis isn't it? Sure there will be different ratio racks you can use, also remember how often you get any real lock on on a circuit... if it is heavy.. keep a big steering wheel! Secondly, If it lasts 2 laps then that is more than you need for Time attack If you do need Power Steering maybe consider an electric unit Weight removal If it doesn't say you can't do it in your class then you need to do it cut off brackets, you can often find surprising savings in things like engine mounts, be careful with glass, make sure the replacement is actually lighter(!), Half the oom will bue useless. Dry Ice to loose the bituman seal, iff you can you can take the intrusion bars out of the doors |
