Alfa Romeo to enter BTCC?

Rumours from Italy suggest Alfa could be entering 2 works cars 1 for Gabriele Tarquini and the other possibly for Paul O'Neill. Theses are only rumours but it would be great to see Tarquini back with Alfa.

Would O'Neill want to give up his seat at Vauxhall? Probably not. Perhaps Pyper, he could do with a works seat.

I read that Tarquini has been seen with Alfa officials at the Silverstone ETCC round. Also in conversation with Ray Mallock who do not have a touring car deal at the moment.

Something in that perhaps?

Doesn't Tarquini have a long term deal with Honda and JAS?

Alfa Fan has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I think Tarquini's( but i'm not sure) contract ended when JAS pulled out of Touring cars. Gavin Pyper, Gabriele Tarquini, and Tom Ferrier would be my favourites, with GA Racing running a second works team ( like egg Sport with Vauxhall) for Alan Blencowe and Graham Saunders, a team capeable of seriously threating those Astras.

Why would they want Paul o'neil? OK, he is doing a reasonable job so far this year but do you not honestly think that there are more capable drivers out there? Pyper could be entertaining to say the least and Ferrier could do the job for sure. I beleive Mr Ferrier was with the Alfa people at Thruxton. Makes sense as he is the official Alfa UK driver.Who do you think would run the cars?

Don't hold your breath folks. This appeared on "that" other forum, (I presume this is where that "rumour" has come from) but was then removed and the member that posted it apologised and said he was having a laugh.

Even it it is a joke from "that" forum, surely Alfa entering is a possibility with representitives visiting BTCC races, and Drivers Like Tarquini unemployed, but an Alfa favorite. With Ferrier recieving Alfa UK backing surely there has to be interest from Alfa in British racing.

True. But every manufacturer looks at the BTCC at some point surely, racing is a great showroom. Some decide racing just isn't their cup of tea.

But I suppose with Alfa being involved in backing British driver in ETCC, who knows what'll happen? It always puzzles me why Importers back cars that race in other countries for the majority of the season.

from what i have heard JAS and Tarquini may re-enter the ETCC later in the season with a Civic, and JAS built the CiBiEmme Civic's didn't they?

Didn't the cars JAS Engineering were working on go to CiBiEmme?

The former JAS team members now help run the ETCC Civics for Tavano and Sardelli.

I can't see Ferrier giving up his Alfa ETCC deal, even if he did have a bad weekend at Brno.

I think the CiBiEmme cars aren't the JAS cars, as the CiBiEmme cars ran at Magny Cours in SUper Production trim and where upgraded, i think by JAS, in between then and Silverstone.

I thought the former JAS members make up the DART racing team that runs Tom Ferrier. They run under that name as JAS has always been tied to Honda, there must be an agreement that they can't use that name.
